A RESOLUTION TO NAME THE CITY PARK PROPERTY INFORMALLY KNOWN AS THE
SUNRISE PROPERTY AS SUNRISE PARK
WHEREAS,the City Council has the authority to name park property as outlined in the City of Tigard Naming
&Recognition Policy approved by council via Resolution No.13-36 on September 3,2013;and
WHEREAS,this property is located at the northeast corner of SW 150th Avenue and Sunrise Lane;and
WHEREAS, in the course of discussing names for two other park properties on December 10, 2013, the
council expressed its desire to formally name the Sunrise property as Sunrise Park.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Tigard City Council that:
SECTION 1: The park property at the northeast comer of SW 150th Avenue and Sunrise Lane—
informally known as the Sunrise property—shall be named Sunrise Park.
SECTION 2: This resolution is effective immediately upon passage.

Background

In May 2011,the city purchased Sunrise property.The 20-acre property was purchased with funds from
the$17 million park and open space bond measure and is the site of a future community park.
"17he property is located on Bull Mountain at the northeast corner of SW 150th Avenue and Sunrise Lane.
prior to the city purchasing the property,the site was slated for residential development,and several
buildings and trees had been cleared from the property.The northern and eastern edges of the site were
riot cleared and remain as mixed forest.
Planned improvements may include a baseball field with a soccer field overlay,playground,restroom,
shelter,overlook,pathways and parking.
Naming Request—Sunrise Park
In the course of discussing names for two other park properties on December 10,2013,the council
discussed its desire to formally name the Sunrise property as Sunrise Park.
Recommendation, Cost Estimate and Other Information
The parks manager supports this naming request.
The cost estimate to implement the request is nominal and basically involves the cost of signage.
The Naming&Recognition Policy established naming criteria;proposed names can be derived from a
Physical,historical,or unique characteristic. In this case,Sunrise refers to a physical characteristic—the
location of the property on Sunrise lane.
December 10, 2013—Council Direction
At the December 10,2013,study session,the council directed staff to prepare a resolution to formally
name the Sunrise property as Sunrise Park.
