Dear Mr. Barresi,
We are pleased to provide this summary of foundation excavation observations for the
Orchard Hardware Store at 10031 SW Cascade Avenue in Tigard, Oregon. This
summary report documents that foundation observation services were performed as
required by the project plans, project geotechnical report, and 2009 International
Building Code (IBC).
FOUNDATION EXCAVATIONS
We observed soil conditions within the foundation excavations of the building addition to
evaluate their suitability for foundation support, and to check their consistency with the
soil conditions assumed in our geotechnical report (Reference 2). Based on our field
observations, we observed the following;
• The soil conditions observed at the bottom of the foundation excavations were in
conformance with the recommendations of our geotechnical report.
• The footing excavation depths were in general accordance with the project plans
and geotechnical report.
In summary, based on our observations, the subgrade soils observed in the footing
excavations were consistent with those assumed in the geotechnical report for the
project and are considered suitable for support of the maximum anticipated bearing
capacity of 1,500 pounds per square foot.

The same limitations contained in Kleinfelder's November 12, 2012 geotechnical report
for the project apply to this summary letter.
