Boring, OR 97009 Re: National Safety Building Permit Number ELC2009 -00623 Date: Feb. 5, 2010 Mr. Peterson, Per your request, the City of Tigard has completed the plan review for the above mentioned project. Due to the amount of varying information you have submitted with the last nine submittals, the Senior Electrical Inspector finds to safeguard the safety of the public and to achieve an adequate capacity be built into the electrical system of the proposed project, I will use the most complete submittal you have submitted so far dated Dec. 8, 2009, and supplement it with information you provided subsequent to that date. The Dec. 8, 2009 submittal included two sets of plans and a letter provided by PGE showing the maximum fault current as 18,656 amps. The maximum fault current provided by PGE on that date is now incorrect. I have made all of the adjustments necessary to bring your submittal(s) into compliance with the Nation Electrical Code. During this process I have used information submitted by you on the following dates: Dec. 2, 2009, Dec. 8, 2009, Dec. 9, 2009, Dec. 15, 2009, Dec. 21, 2009, Dec. 22, 2009, Jan. 12, 2010, Jan. 13, 2010 and Jan 26, 2010. I have up -dated your drawings to include information you provided in these submittals. Please pay particular attention to the following changes: 1. Note the addition of GFCI receptacles to comply with Art. 210.8 2. Note the addition of NE /Night /EM egress lighting added by the building inspector. 3. Note the addition of exit lights added by the building inspector. 4. The ampacity of both feeders located inside the building serving the lower floor panel and the upper floor panes has changed. 5. The ampacity of the main service and feeder from PGE into the main switchboard has changed. 6. The AIC Maximum Fault current is now 35,160 Amps. You are required to have all main service equipment designed for this Maximum Fault Current. 7. The feeder supplying the panel on the first floor shall be designed for 315 amps minimum load. 8. The feeder supplying the panel on the second floor shall be designed for 313 amps minimum load. 9. The main service conductors and service equipment shall be designed for 568 amps minimum load. Phone: 503.639.4171 o Fax: 503.684.7297 o www.tigard- or.gov 0 TTY Relay: 503.684.2772 All corrections are in red ink on the approved plans. In addition to changes made on the plans, the fees shown on the permit application have changed. This change is created because of the amount of time charged for the plan reviews completed by me and the additional fees for the change in feeder sizes and main service equipment size. This amount may change again depending upon the final count of branch circuits on the final electrical inspection. A set of stamped approved plans showing the changes shall be available on the job site for review by the inspector at all times. Additionally, 517.13(B) requires the installation of an insulated copper equipment grounding conductor as the second component of the redundant grounding approach to protection for the patient. • Analysis: Section 517.2 of the 2008 NEC does not specifically address a dental chair as one of the ordinary appliances in a patient care area. However, the definition of Health Care Facilities includes buildings or portions of buildings in which dental care is provided. The language in the definition of Patient Care Vicinity implies a concern for conductive • surfaces that can be contacted by the patient, or an attendant who can touch the patient. • • All fixed equipment and receptacles within 1.8 m (6 ft) of dental chairs shall be installed in • accordance with article 517.13 (A) and (B). The use of a non - conductive raceway and two equipment grounding conductors is not recognized as meeting these requirements. To insure patient safety, the code requires all receptacles that serve utilization equipment likely to come in contact with a patient during the process of examination or treatment to • comply with the provisions of article 517.13. • Contact: Dennis Clements, Electrical Program Chief, State of Oregon www.dennis.l.clements @state.or.us • (503) 378-4459 • Building Codes Division ♦ Department of Consumer and Business Services ♦ State of Oregon 1535 Edgewater NW Salem, Oregon • PO Box 14470 Salem, OR 97309 -0404 is 503- 378 -4133 o TTY 503- 373 -1358 • Fax 503- 378 -2322 ♦ bcd.oregon.gov In accordance with OAR 918- 008 -0110, the information contained in this statewide code interpretation is legally binding on any party involved in activities regulated by applicable Oregon law, applicable Oregon regulations or the state building code.
