Project Name: 1 Building No. 9 Date: 2/22/2012 Location: 16578 72 °d Avenue, Building No. 9 Report*: 1 Arrival: 4:1 5 Departure: 4:20 Weather: Scattered showers Permit #: Purpose: Building Slab Subgrade At the request of and accompanied by Dennis Pagni of Pactrust, I visited the above - referenced site to evaluate floor slab subgrade. I understand that the "pour- back" closure strip of the floor slab had been removed along the southern wall of the building. The location and extent of the floor slab removed is documented in the attached report by Nordling Structural Engineers, LLC. (NSE). Based on NSE's report and discussions with Mr. Pagni, we understand that the prior floor slab in this area had cracked and has been removed in preparation for a new tenant. The building is 20 to 30 years old, and the prior tenant has been the only occupant of this space. Mr. Pagni stated that this is area of the site had been used for storage by the prior tenant. The exposed subgrade (see photo below) consist of gravel with variable silt content (some silt to silty). I probed the subgrade using a foundation probe, and with the exception of an approximately 3 -foot radius area at the western end of the area, the subgrade consisted of firm material with less than 1 to 2 inches of penetration. I was able to prove the approximately 3 -foot radius area describe above up to 6 inches. I recommended to Mr. Parini that the subgrade be compacted until well -keyed using a hoe -pack or a large vibratory plate compactor. Because of the high silt content, the contractor should be careful not to pump the subgrade material. It is our opinion that the prior settlement of the subgrade has occurred, and that additional settlement should not occur provided the above - referenced subgrade preparation is completed and the future loading does not exceed the prior tenant.
