The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code
(OSSC) 2007 edition; National Fire Protection Association, Standard 13D (NFPA 13D)
2002 edition and the State of Oregon Fire Code (OFC) 2007edition.
This 13D sprinkler system is being installed at the request of the licensing agency for
assisted care living facilities and is not required by building code. This residential care
facility is in a multi - family 4 plex which would require a full NFPA13R sprinkler system to
be installed. The care facility is allowed in a one and two family dwelling therefore this
application is purely voluntary. If this occupancy becomes a facility for more than 5
residents it will have to have the sprinkler system upgraded to a NFPA13R system and
another permit taken out.
1. An approved audible sprinkler flow alarm shall be provided on the exterior of the
building in an approved location. Such sprinkler water -flow devices shall be
activated by water flow equivalent to the flow of a single sprinkler of the smallest
orifice size installed in the system. Section 903.4.2 OFC
2. The end sprinkler on a line shall be restrained against excessive vertical and
lateral movement.
3. Prior to system acceptance, a system utilizing a pump shall be tested by opening
the drain /test connection. The pump shall sense the flow, turn on, and flow water
for the required duration of 10 min. without interruption.
4. System piping shall be protected from freezing.
Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp,
shall be maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division
inspectors throughout all phases of construction. 106.4.2 OSSC
When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the
City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal assists the City of Tigard
in tracking and processing the documents.
