The tie -down device shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. At the first story, two anchor bolts installed in accordance with Figure R -303, shall be provided in each panel. Anchor bolts shall be placed approximately at panel quarter points. At the first story, the panels shall be supported directly on a foundation or on floor framing supported directly on a foundation or footing not less than 10'-0" in length and centered under the panel. At garage openings the slab edge may be thickened to provide for a portion of the required footing. Such footings shall extend around corners as necessary to provide the required length. This foundation or footing shall be reinforced with not less than one ?4 bar top and bottom. Foundation walls shall be tied to footings by not less than 44 vertical bars at 24" on center. (Exception: Vertical bars are not required for monolithic pours.) B. In the first story of two -story buildings. each braced wall panel shall be in accordance with Item VILA except that the plywood sheathing shall be provided on both faces or on one face with minimum 1/2" thick plywood nailed with 8d common or _galvanized box nails at 3" on center and with all edges biockee, each panel shall have three anchor bolts installed at approximately 1/5 Points. and the required tie -down devices' uplift capacity shall be not less than 3,000 pounds. See item VILA. forioundation requirements. VIII. PORTAL F RAIvE: A rectangular room complying with Section IV of this ruling may substitute a portal frame wall constructed in accordance with these provisions for one of its four braced walls. • General Description. A Donal frame wall consists of one or more continuous headers and two or more structural inners, each of equal width and height, but not less than 22 -i /2 inches wide, and is attached to a reinforced concrete foundation. Except for the extended foundation system, the wall shall not contain vertical or horizontal bends, corners or offsets.
