STRUCTURAL NOTES
LIGHT GAUGE METAL FRAMING
1. All light gauge steel shapes shall be 33 ksi material per ASTM A-
446-72, Grade A, unless noted to be 40 ksi, Grade C. Shapes shown
are per Angeles Metal Systems. Other manufacturer's shapes with
equal or greater A, I, S, and R factors may be substituted provided
they have I.C.B.O. research reports. Metal studs and blocking shall
be punched "C" studs of 20 gage minimum with flange width equal to
1 -1/4 inches unless otherwise noted.
2. Design of framing members shall comply with AISI Cold Formed Steel
Design Manual.
3. Screws for connecting steel framing members shall be self -
drilling, self- tapping screws with minimum fy = 33 ksi unless
otherwise noted. Connect studs to track with minimum two (2) #6
screws (one each side). Connect built -up studs together with
minimum #6 screws at 12" on center.
4. Screws for connecting gypsum wallboard or plywood to metal studs and
track shall be bugle headed, self- drilling screws. Screws for
connecting metal studs to structural steel of 1/4 inch thick or less
shall be #12 - 24 x 7/8 inch HEX, Washerhead TEKS4 Self- Drilling
Screws.
5. Torch cutting of load bearing studs not allowed. Cut with saw or
shears.
6. Torch cutting of bolt holes in track not allowed. Drill or punch
holes to the proper size for bolts.
7. Bearing studs carrying axial load shall be cut so that web of studs
is in direct contact with all tracks.
STRUCTURAL AND MISCELLANEOUS STEEL
1. Detailing, fabrication and erection shall conform to the Steel
Construction Manual of AISC.
2. All steel to be A36 except as noted.
3. All welds to be made by Certified Welders to AWS Standards with
E60XX or E70XX electrodes.
4. Bolts to be A307 unless otherwise noted.
5. Bolts shall be located in slotted holes as shown on drawings.
6. All structural tubing to be ASTM A500, Grade B fy = 46 ksi. Splices
in tubing shall provide full penetration welds with backing plates.
7. Low velocity fasteners shall be ITW Ramset Low Velocity Fasteners
with 0.14 inch diameter knurled shanks.
