The submitted plans are approved subject to the following conditions: 1. This project is using series rated circuit breaker combinations to comply with NEC 110.9 (interrupting rating sufficient for the available fault current). These plans are approved based on the representation that the exact equipment and breaker combinations that will be installed are specifically certified as series rated combinations. The electrical contractor will be required to demonstrate to the field inspector that each piece of equipment that is relying on series rating is listed by its manufacturer as having been tested in the specific combination installed and is certified for the fault current available. (A check list is included to assist in this. More copies may be downloaded at www.bussmann.com). 2. Series combination rated equipment shall be marked per NEC 110.22. 3. New service equipment shall meet the access and working space requirements of NEC 110.26 and shall not cause the existing equipment to fail to meet these same requirements. 4. Transformers shall be located to provide clearances and ventilation required by NEC 450 and 110.26. and manufacturers installation instructions. 5. All transformers (separately derived systems) shall be grounded per NEC 250.30, and bonded to metal water piping systems per NEC 250.104. 6. You are representing that there are no areas that qualify as hazardous (classified) locations. 7. All HVAC equipment shall have a disconnect within sight. (NEC424.19 and 440.14) 9. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): It shall be the responsibility of the Architect, Engineer, Designer, Contractor, Owner and Lessee to research the applicability of the ADA requirements for the structure. The City of Tigard reviews the plans and inspects the structure only for compliance with the OESC which may not include all of the requirements of the ADA. 10. Approved Plans: One set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp, shall be maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division inspectors throughout all phases of construction. Series Rated Combination What is a Series Rated Combination? A combination of two devices, that have been tested under specific test conditions that work together to clear a fault. The allowed combina- tions are limited to those that have been selected by the circuit breaker manufacturer for testing. Only tested combinations can be used. CAUTION: A series rated combination allows a load side circuit breaker to be applied where the available short circuit current exceeds the interrupting rating marked on that circuit breaker. If more motor loads are added, the series combina- tion rating for that application could be negated. 5) Selective Coordination A disadvantage of a series rated combination is that, by definition, for fault conditions the line side (protecting) device must open at the same time, and in conjunction with, the load side (protected) circuit breaker. This means that the entire panel loses power because the device feeding the panel must open under medium to high level short- circuit conditions. For life and safety reasons, the NEC® requires selective coordination in some applications. Main to feeder series rated combinations do not meet the requirements of 517.17 in health care facilities. Series rated combinations do not meet 620.62 for elevator circuits that contain more than one elevator.
