The monopole is a stepped variety of monopole and is constructed of two circular pipe sections, manufactured by the Andrew Corporation for US West. The erection date was in 1997. The analysis was performed per your July 26 request to determine the feasibility of installing Sprint PCS antennas on the existing monopole near the 62 -foot level. The proposed loading was provided in the package that you provided us and includes the following Sprint PCS antennas: • (4) EMS RV90 -18 -XX Panel Antennas arranged in 2- sectors with 7/8 inch externally located coax cables mounted on short davit arm pipe mounts near the 62 -foot level. • (2) EMS RV90 -17 -XX Panel Antennas arranged in 1- sector with 7/8 inch externally located coax cables mounted on short davit arm pipe mounts near the 62 -foot level. The existing and future Qwest antennas at the top of the monopole include (9) EMS RR- 33 -20- XXDLP panel antennas arranged in 3- sectors and mounted on top of the monopole on 2 -bay swing arm mounts. We also included a 19x15x11 flat panel microwave antenna near the 72- foot level. We based the antenna sizes and location information on the Qwest collocation standards that you sent. We also received the necessary Andrew structural information in your original package and assume that the monopole was built per the drawings. The monopole is constructed of round pipe sections with a 24 -inch diameter section up to the 40 -foot level and an 18 -inch diameter pipe to the top. Refer to the attached monopole elevation and antenna loading tables on Enclosures 1 to 4 for the existing antennas and proposed Sprint PCS antenna information. MONOPOLE ANALYSIS RESULTS A computer analysis of the monopole was performed to assess its structural performance under the current design standard, ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 -F. All antenna and member wind loads were per the ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 -F recommendations. The allowable member stresses were per the ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 -F, which references the AISC "Manual of Steel Construction, Allowable Stress Design, 9 edition ". The ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 -F and the AISC allow a 33% increase in ,s Letter to David Lyman — Bull Mountain Monopole August 1, 2002 Page 2 allowable stress for wind loading on poles less than 700 feet tall. This increase is included in the final stress levels. The design wind speed used for analysis was 90 mph with no ice and 77 mph with Y2 -inch of radial ice coating all member and antenna surfaces. This is the loading criteria used by the manufacturer and per the local recommendations for Washington County. Our initial analysis of the monopole was for the 90 mph load case in conjunction with the ice loading case. The analysis included all the existing top- mounted and future Qwest antennas at the 80 -foot and the microwave antenna at the 72 -foot level. The results show that the maximum stress level occurred at the bottom of the 24 -inch diameter section (0 -foot level) and was 45% of the allowable capacity. Note that this indicates that the monopole is roughly at one half of its capacity with ample reserve for additional carriers or future antennas. Refer to the member stress summaries on Page 12 of 12 (1 load case) and monopole reactions listed on Page 8 and 10 of 12 (1 load case). We next analyzed the monopole for the 77 mph wind load case with W of radial ice on the monopole surfaces and proposed Sprint PCS antennas at the 62 -foot level. The maximum stress level was 52% of the member capacity, also occurring at the base of the bottom section. Refer to the member stress summaries on Page 10 of 10 (2 load case) and monopole reactions listed on Page 6 and 8 of 10 (2 load case). The following chart summarizes the results of the various load combinations. The maximum calculated stress levels are listed for the highest stress pole location for each load case. The location of the maximum member stress is indicated in feet (loc). MEMBER STRESS SUMMARY CHART LOAD COMBINATION: LEG% (loc) 1. 90 mph and 77 mph w/ %" inch — existing 45 (Base) Qwest antennas 2. 90 mph and 77 mph w/ %" inch — existing 52 (Base) Qwest antennas with Sprint antennas FOUNDATION ANALYSIS RESULTS The drilled concrete pier foundation was designed by Andrew and is assumed to be 54 -inch diameter by 28 -feet deep. The design was for a maximum vertical (axial) load of 30 kips, shear or lateral load of 10.1 kips, and a bending moment of 606 ft -kips. The maximum load combination was for the 90 mph wind load case. The vertical reaction of 12.7 kips, base shear of 9.2 kips, and bending moment of 433 ft-kips are about 42 %, 91%, and 71% of the allowable reactions, respectively. These reactions indicate that the foundation is adequate for the proposed antenna loading CONCLUSION The results of our structural analysis for the existing 80 -foot Qwest monopole located at the Highway 99 and Bull Mountain site near Tigard, Oregon indicate that the proposed Sprint PCS panel antennas may be safely installed on t- sector arm mounts near the 62 -foot level with no upgrading required.
