Open -Faced spray. booth (Pro Clean Ind. Booth PCL 1886 -125)
Subject: Response to letter of February 16, 1995. (Copy attached)
1, Fire Baffle will be installed. See attached working
compartment parts list: I tem 16 Qty (2) FB -4, Oty (1) FB -10
2. Air velocity of 125 lineal feet per minute is engineered into
the booth. When this velocity is not maintained a safety airflow
switch shuts the spray system down.
3. The booth will be wired by a licensed commercial electrician to
NEC Class I Division 2 code. No other wiring will be within 20 ft.
4. The booth will be grounded in accordance with the electrical
code by a licensed commercial electrician. -
5. When the minimum airflow is not maintained, the safety airflow
switch shuts the spray system down. ,
6. The 34" diameter exhaust stack is 18 gauge steel.
A fire suppression system will be provided and installed by
United Fire, Health & Safety in the duct. See attached sheet.
7. A fire suppression system will be provided and installed by

10. A 34" roof flange has been provided per plans submitted,
showing the duct passing through a non- fire proof roof structure.
This flange is engineered to create an air space between the duct
and the roof structure. The exhaust stack is not otherwise within
15 feet of combustible materials.
Please add these clarifications to the plans already submitted, as
they are not being changed.

This review is based on an open -faced spray paint booth (Pro Clean lnd. Booth
PCL 886 -125). The following is conditions of approval for the installation of
such booth.
1. The upper outer edge of the booth over the opening shall be provided with
a metal deflector or fire curtain not less than 4 -1/2 inches in depth.
Section 45.203(f).
2. Air velocity of 100 lineal feet per minute shall be maintained through the
filters at all times. Section 45.206(b)
3. All electrical wiring, motors and other equipment located outside of the
booth but within 20 feet shall be considered Class I Division 2 hazardous
location in accordance with the Electrical Code. Section 45.205(c)2.
4. The booth shall be grounded in accordance with the Electrical Code.
Section 45.205(d)
5. Mechanical ventilation shall be kept in operation. See previous review.
Section 45.206(a).
6. The exhaust duct shall be not less than 20 GA. steel. Fire sprinklers
shall be installed in the duct at the top of the booth and at the roof.
UMC 1107(g).
The spray booth shall be protected by a fire sprinkler system. Such
bU system shall be installed as Ex. Haz. Group 2 per UBC Standard 38 -1. UFC
45.209(b).
Makeup air shall be provided to the area per Sec. 1105(c) UMC.
( I 9. Install a 40 -BC fire extinguisher directly outside the —boot per UFC
I Standard 10 -1.
10. Provide 18- inches of clearance from the exhaust duct and combustible
` materials. UFC 25.206(f).
Please make the above noted corrections to the plans and resubmit 3 sets for
