Dear Kuro:
At your request a representative of T.M. Rippey Consulting Engineers performed a limited
structural analysis on the roof at the above referenced address. The purpose of our analysis was
to determine if an additional roof can be placed over the existing roof. Based on our analysis,
we have the following findings:
1. All roof members appear to be adequate for the expected additional loading of the
new roof.
?. The typical 8 -3/4' x 9" glu -lam columns appear to be satisfactory with the
exception that the columns located on grid line D appear to be approximately 5 %-
10% overstressed. There are approximately four of these columns and in these
. areas the normal factors of safety would be slightly reduced.
3. The typical footings appear to be satisfactory with the new load. We did note
that there are a number of 4'- 6 "x4_ -6 "x 17" unreinforced footings. Having
unreinforced footings for commercial buildings is no longer accepted by the code.
• There were some firms designing unreinforced footings of this size at the time
this building was constructed. Based on reviewing these footings in accordance
with provisions of the Uniform Building Code that were in effect at the time the
building was constructed, these footings appear to be satisfactory.
