Correspondence i City of Tigard, Oregon • 13125 SW Hall Blvd. • Tigard, OR 97223 Monday, September 08, 2008 Metro's Best Electric T I GARD POBox 30075 Portland, OR 97294 RE Electrical Permit Panel Stickers, Particularly for your job at 11569 SW Sheffield Circle, Tigard, our permit ELC2008- 00482. In separate envelopes addressed to me I have received two signed Washington County Electrical Permit panel stickers from you, each with a stamped envelope addressed to the owner of the house at which you did electrical work. The respective jobs are: 11569 SW Sheffield Cir., Tigard, OR 97223 Tigard Electrical Permit ELC2008- 00482, and 15150 SW Division St., Beaverton, OR 97007 Washington County Electrical Permit 05243438. I appreciate the compliment of assuming that I have some authority to speak for Washington County's electrical program as well as for the City of Tigard's, but, unfortunately, that is not the case. Since I don't know which inspector you have been dealing with at the County I am returning that panel sticker and its homeowner envelope to you so that you can send it on to the right person. We took a shot at simply correcting the items on what should have been a City of Tigard sticker but the result is so messy that posting it would be an embarrassment to Metro's Best as well as to the City of Tigard. Therefore I am returning it to you. Please re -write it on a City of Tigard sticker, send it back to me, and I will sign it and send it on to the homeowner. On the assumption that you may have discarded the original sticker that we sent you along with the permit itself and that you had no others on hand, I am enclosing a few blank City of Tigard stickers. Since there was no signed permit sticker in the panel when I conducted my inspection I could have marked that inspection as a Fail, which would have had you make another trip to the site to post the sticker. When I called your office from the jobsite I offered to Pass the inspection and handle the sticker by mail on the assumption that your failure to post the sticker was purely an oversight and not a regularly occurring event. Finding that the same thing happened on this Beaverton job at, presumably, around the same time is disappointing. Phone: 503.639.4171 • Fax: 503.684.7297 . • www.tigard - or.gov • TTY Relay: 503.684.2772 r Please make sure that your field personnel know that each of our jurisdictions, the City of Tigard and Washington County, and to the best of my knowledge, all other jurisdictions in our area, require that a properly filled out permit sticker signed by the signing supervisor for the licensed electrical contracting firm be posted in the service panel before the first inspection under an electrical permit and that it is our practice to Fail any inspection we conduct when a properly completed and signed sticker is not posted. In a case like this, especially, where the actual work done was excellent and unusually neat and precise — as I commented to your customer — it would be a shame if the customer had to remember seeing a Fail notice instead of remembering a Pass on a good job that he might well tell others about. While it is not required that the permit sticker be posted before work is begun you might find it helpful to have your people post the sticker before they start anything else so that their good work is not unnecessarily associated with a "Fail." I will hold onto the envelope addressed to the homeowner. Please complete and sign a City of Tigard permit sticker for this job, return it to me, and I will forward it to the homeowner.
