Lobby Space
On Friday, July 6 we met to review your letter of July 5, 2001 concerning this first floor
lobby that serves as a secured public entrance for the three spaces. This was an existing
condition that was installed at the time the building was built and the first tenants moved
into the space. At that time a single herculite glass door with a glass sidelight on each side
was used as an entrance to Northwest Evaluation on the second floor and a pair of herculite
glass doors were used for the entrance into Hewlett Packard on the first floor.
This spring with the division of Hewlett Packard into two companies, Agilent and Hewlett
Packard, we revised the existing Hewlett Packard space to accommodate the two entities in
separate spaces. Their desire was to have identical entrances from the lobby opposite each
other. At their direction, we complied with this request and submitted drawings for each
tenant space to the City for approval.
When Bob Poskin saw the entries during the final inspection phases for Hewlett Packard
construction, he questioned the condition and compliance with the current code. He
indicated the lobby space with glass doors would not be a 1 hour space without 20 minute
labeled doors and frames and three quarter hour relights in secure frames. This precipitated
your letter and the meeting.
The second floor space has access to two exits. One occurs through the lobby space, and
the other is through a 1 hour rated corridor and a 2 hour rated stairway exiting directly
outside. You agreed the lobby/hallway is considered an intervening room and the fire - rating
is not required. Each of the first floor spaces has two or more direct exits to the outside
from within the spaces without using the entry lobby. We will review and revise the exit
signs on the first floor to reflect emergency egress only to outside'doors.
