Box 2198 Phone: 503- 723 -8003 Oregon City, Oregon 97045 Fax: 503- 723 -8234 Email: codeexpert@msn.com December 9, 2002 Mr. Gary Lampella, Building Official City of Tigard 13125 SW Hall Blvd. Tigard, Oregon 97223 Subject: REVIEW OF TYPE I HOOD FIRE SUPRESSION SYSTEM, PROJECT IS LOCATED AT 13727 SW PACIFIC HIGHWAY, TIGARD, OREGON, PERMIT BUP2002- 005XX, 2134.TIG Dear Mr. Lampella, In response to your request, the drawings and design documents for the proposed interior work were REVIEWED AND FOUND TO BE IN SUBSTANTIAL COMPLIANCE with the 2002 Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code (OMSC) and NFPA 96. It is important to note the issuance of a permit shall not authorize the violation of any provisions of the OMSC or NFPA 96. Permits presuming to give authority to violate or cancel any provisions of the OMSC are not valid. The recommendation for approval and issuance of a permit based on the plans, specifications and related material shall not prevent the building official hereafter from requiring the correction of errors in plans, specifications and related material or from preventing the building from being operated in violation. The following are to be considered conditions of approval. Conditions of Approval: 1. Fire - extinguishing equipment shall include both automatic fire- extinguishing systems as primary protection and portable fire extinguishers as a secondary backup. 2. Building inspector shall validate if a Class K fire extinguisher is located within 30 feet of commercial food heat - processing equipment. 3. A placard identifying the use of the extinguisher as a secondary backup means to the automatic fire - extinguishing system shall be conspicuously placed near each portable fire extinguisher in the cooking area. 4. Upon activation of any fire - extinguishing system for cooking operation, all sources of fuel and electric power that produce heat to all equipment requiring protection by that system shall automatically shut off. 5. Shutoff devices shall require manual reset. 6. A readily accessible means for manual activation shall be located between 42 inches and 48 inches above the floor, be accessible in the event of a fire, be located in a path of egress, and clearly identify the hazard protected. • e • . 7. Upon activation of the automatic fir- extinguishing system, an audible alarm or visual indicator shall be provided to show the system has activated. 8. The installer shall provide certification to the City of Tigard that the installation is in agreement with the terms of the listing and the manufacturer's installations and/or approved design. 9. The installer shall arrange an appointment with the City of Tigard for a trip test of the system after completed installation of the system and prior to business operation. Documents Submitted : 1.
