This review was performed under the provisions of the State of Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code,
(OMSC) 2002 edition, and the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) as adopted by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and
the City of Tigard.
1. Makeup air shall be supplied during the operation of commercial kitchen exhaust systems that are
provided for commercial food heat - processing appliances. The amount of makeup air supplied

shall be approximately equal lie amount of exhaust air. The makeup air shall not reduce the - -
• effectiveness of the exhaust system. Makeup air shall be provided by gravity or mechanical means
or both. For mechanical makeup air systems, the exhaust and makeup air systems shall be
electronically interlocked to ensure that makeup air is provided whenever the exhaust system is in
operation. Please make sure that the makeup air system can be verified at the time of the
inspection for the suppression system. OMSC Section 508.1
2. Each automatic fire suppression system shall have both automatic and manual actuation means. A
manual actuation device shall be located at or near a means of egress from the cooking area; a
minimum of 10 feet and a maximum of 20 feet from the kitchen exhaust system. The manual
actuation device shall be located a minimum of 4 feet 6 inches and a maximum of 5 feet above the
floor. The manual actuation shall require a maximum force of 40 pounds and a maximum
movement of 14 inches to actuate the fire suppression system. OMSC Section 509.4
3. The automatic fire suppression system shall be acceptance - tested in accordance with the fire code
and installation standard listed in Section 509.3, and with the manufacture's instructions. Please
have this information available at the time of inspection. OMSC Section 509.7
The submitted plans and documentation has been found to meet the requirements of the Oregon Mechanical
Specialty Code. Please have your permit, all documentation and this letter at the jobsite for the inspector
during the witnessing of the fire suppression testing. .
