Those present.: Mayor Phillips, Councilmen Aitken, Ilannetnan, V'erharen
and ?;Foodard, and from Tualatin Rural Fire District
Rob Saarinen, Lee Miller and Buddy gather,
Mayor Phillips opened the meeting by 1 general. discussion of the
Knauss fire. lie stated that it tool, 13 minutes for the fire truck,
after the alarm,to leave the Ti: and Fire Station c.nd that it tool:
19 minutes for the fire truck from Tualatin Station to arrive at
the fire scene, Mayor Phillips thought this time interval Yeas
too long for rood fire r•rotection. - ;-.r Puller .dated than he be-
lieved this to be normal since volunteers man the Tigard truck andthat because of the distance, and the curves from Tualatin to
Tioard he could not see;` how it could be improved.
In general discussion the Council believed that Ti;;ard should be
the manned fire station in the District, or at least a. manned
Sub-station of Tualatin. Tic,ard is the center Of area iopula-
tion and industry, and this should be considered. ' mr ;tiller `
stated that in order to c.;ive adequate protection to r'ilsonville
and Stafford thatTualatin would have to remain the manned station
in the Tualatin Rural. Fire District because of its central loca-
tion.in that district area.
Councilmen Hanneman and ;doodard asked the members of Tualatin
Rural Fire District what could be done to improve our Tigard fire
protection. It was stated by CouncilIan Aitken that we should
have a minimum of one man in the day time and two men at night
with an additional man for fill-in on days off - a total of four
paid men. We should have adequate fire f.irhtinueruIpment for
this;manned force; this would allow for adequate coverac,e throuclh-
out this section of the Tualatin Rural Fire District. Mr Miller-
Stated this would cost approximately $400 per man per month, plus
equipment. .,ayor Phillips asked if this could not be borned by
all the area, of the District because this would be a definite;,im-
provement in the total fire protection. all members present

require a' study;

of above additional costs.
