A RESOLUTION OF THE TIGARD CITY COUNCIL RECOGNIZING TIGARD BEYOND TOMORROW AS
THE COMMUNITY'S VISION FOR THE YEAR 2017 AND COMMITTING TO ADDRESS VISION
ELEMENTS IN COUNCIL'S ANNUAL GOAL SETTING PROCESS AND PROVIDE LEADER.SFIIP TO
ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN PARTNERSHIPS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY TO ACCOMPLISH
OUR ENVISIONED FUTURE..
WHEREAS,the Tigard City Council believes it is important to determine and achieve citizen's desires for the community's
future;and
WHEREAS,the future of our community is too important to bo left to chance;and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Tigard Community have given direction for our community's future through a process which
has culminated in the fust report documenting the Tigard Beyond Tomorrow progress(published in January,1998);and
WHEREAS,the Tigard Community desires a City Council and other governing bodies that are willing to work together with
residents,businesses,and community group leaders to lead the community towards a better and more productive future;and
WHEREAS,the City Council recognizes t:rat it is relatively easy to create a vision,strategies and goals and even to communicate
that through the community. However,the difficult job lays ahead,that of(1)carrying out the strategies and the goals necessary
to achieve the vision and (2) providing leadership to establish and maintain partnerships throughout the community to
accomplish our envisioned future.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by th-Tigard City Council that:
SECTION 1: Tigard Beyond Tomorrow is a process that will be used to achieve the citizens' desires for our
community's future. The fust annual report(dated 1/98) is attached and hereby made a part of this
resolution to formalize the process,and recognize the direction our community wishes to take in creating
the Tigard Community of 2017.
SECTION 2: Elements of the Tigard Beyond Tomorrow vision will be addressed in the Council's annual goal setting
process.
SECTION 3: A major role for the Council in achieving the community's vision is to provide the leadership to establish
and maintain partnerships throughout the community.
