A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT SB 588 BE MODIFIED TO GIVE LOCAL
GOVERNMENTS A LOCAL OPTION REGARDING OWNER CONSENT TO HISTORIC
DESIGNATIONS
WHEREAS, SB 588, addressing local government historic site designation,
has been introduced into the Oregon State Senate; and
WHEREAS, Section_ 20 of SB 588 requires that a local government shall
allow a property owner to refuse consent to any form of historic
property designation; and
WHEREAS, such refusal to consent shall remove the property from any form
of historic property designation; and
WHEREAS, this provision would substantially weaken Tigard's authority to
ensure that its historic resources will be protected for future
generations; and
WHEREAS, significant properties would be allowed to be demolished or
modified without consideration of their effect on the community; and
WHEREAS, a local option for owner consent is imperative to ensure the
protection of Tigard's historic resources.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Tigard City Council that:
Section 1. The City of Tigard strongly recorrotends t� t SB 588 be
modified such that local governments are gi-aen a local Zrion regarding
owner consent to historic designation.
