A RESOLUTION OF "EHE 'TIGARD CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE. APPLICATIONS FOR
FEDERAL ASSISTANCE FOR MAKING IMPROVEMENTS TO THE TIGARD SENIOR CENTER
FACILITY TO BETTER SERVE THE CITY'S SENIOR C3�1"IZENS.
WHEREAS, Loaves and Fishes Centers, Inc. is an Oregon non-profit Corporation
incorporated for the purpose of promoting better health and sustaining
independent living through improved nutrition among the elderly by providing
low-cost nutritionally--sound meals and recreation and leisure activities in
strategically placed centers; and
WHEREAS, the Loaves and Fishes Center in Tigard, located at 8815 SW Omara was
constructed in 1981, and serves the senior citizens of 'Tigard, King City,
Metzger and adjacent unincorporated areas; and
WHEREAS, participation in Center services and activities has grown at a steady
rate of three to five percent each year since completion of the center.
WHEREAS, the existing facility for the Loaves and Fishes Center in Tigard is
inadequate in terms of space, functionality, and handicapped access.
WHEREAS, several group meetings with the Senior Center Steering Committee,
Loaves and Fishes and City staff have resulted in a list of immediate and
short-term facility improvements and handicapped access needs.

WHEREAS, These improvements are defined in ori application for federal
Community Development Block Grant funds.
WHEREAS, numerous letters from organizations and individuals are indicative of
broad community support for the aforementioned improvements.
WHEREAS, Washington County will receive an estimated $1.3 million per year, for
the next three years, for which twelve cities and the county will compete for
the funding of various projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Tigard City Council that the City of
Tigard, Oregon, based on the aforementioned considerations, hereby expresses
its support for improvements to the Loaves and Fishes Center in Tigard and
authorizes submission of an applicaton for federal assistance.
