Resolution No. 79-111 CITY OF TIGARD, OREGON IRESOLUTION No. 79—_1 I A RESOLUTION REGARDING THE SPEED LIMIT OF S.W. KATHERINE STREET WHEREAS, The Oregon State Speed Control Board has responsibility in the establishing of authorized speed limits; and WHEREAS, the new Mary Woodward Elementary School has been constructed, and is in operation in the vicinity of 124th and S.W. Katherine Streets; and WHEREAS, S.W. Katherine Street is a 25 m.p.h. residential street; and WHEREAS, recent traffic surveys on S.W. Katherine Street indicate vehicle speeds in excess of the existing speed limit; and WHEREAS, this area is developed as a residential and public school segment of the community. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED: Section 1: The City Council of the City of Tigard expresses its opinion that the existing 25 mph speed limit on S.W. Katherine Street, should be reduced to 20 mph, and posted as a normal school zone, between S.W. 123rd Court and S.W. 125th Avenue, and requests the Oregon State Speed Control Board to study this recommendation. Section 2: Whereas the Mary Woodward School is in session, an emergency is hereby declared, requiring immediate action by the Oregon State Speed Control Board in response to this resolution. PASSED:.
