RESOLUTION No. 76 - 4
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN APPLICATION FOR FUNDING UNDER PROVISIONS
OF THE BIKEWAY DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM (SECTION 119, FEDERAL AID HIGH-
WAY AMENDMENT OF 1974).
WHEREAS, this Tigard City Council is in regular session this 1.2
day of January, 1976; and
WHEREAS, the Council has previously approved and adopted the Tigard
2ommunit Plan of 1971, which identifies and describes a Greenway
system ori City of Tigard incorporating an integrated system
of trails, recreational areas and open space; and
WHEREAS, the Council subsequently approved and adopted the �TTii�ard_
Area Com rehensive Pedestrian/Bicycle Pathway Plan of 1974, whicc
idents ies
and prioritizes bicycle and pedestrian pa way projects
throughout the Tigard area; and
WHEREAS, the Council has previously found that safe facilities for
bicycle and pedestrian use, separated from motor vehicle traffic,
are in the highest priority of public projects; and
WHEREAS, under the provisions of section 119 of the Federal Aid
Highway Amendment of 1974, federal assistance has been authorized
and made available to aid in design and construction of demonstration
bikeway projects; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds the GREENWAY BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN PATHWAY,
a proposal for trail development in the City of Tigard, to be in
conformance with all plans and priorities of the City of Tigard and
to be in the best public interest,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Tigard:
1. That the mayor be authorized to make formal application
to the Federal Highway Administration through the Oregon
State Highway Division for fund assistance;
2. That any fund assl6tance so received be used in the design
and construction of a 2.9 mile long Pedestrian/Bicycle
Pathway herein described as the GREENWAY BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN
PATHWAY;
3. That this resolution become part of a formal application to
the Federal Highway Administration through the Oregon State
Highway Division.
