A RESOLUTION REQUESTING WASHINGTON COUNTY, C.R.A.G. AND THE STATE OF OREGON TO
(.. TAKE ACTION TO ALLEVIATE TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND TO PROVIDE SAFER ACCESS IN THE
AREA OF HIGHWAY 217, HUNZIKER ROAD AND 72ND AVENUE IN THE CITY OF TIGARD; AND
URGING THAT SUCH IMPROVEMENTS BE PUDE IN SUCH A WAY AS TO PRESERVE AND ENHANCE
RESIDENTIAL USES IN THE AREA WHILE PROVIDING ADEQUATE FACILITIES FOR THE COMMERCIAL-
INDUSTRIAL USES IN THE AREA.
WHEREAS, traffic congestion in the Hunziker, 217 and 72nd area occurs due
to inadequate road facilities in this area; and
WHEREAS, traffic loads will increase in the future; and
WHEREAS, such congestion causes hazardous conditions which unnecessarily
threaten the safety of persons utilizing these facilities; and
WHEREAS, the incomplete design of this intersection unnecessarily overloads
adjacent streets with heavy traffic and encourages drivers to execute illegal
traffic maneuvers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Tigard City Council that;
Section 1: Washington .County, C.R.A.G..:-and:... the State of Oregon be
hereby requested to prepare appropriate plans and to commence
improvements to the above referenced area.
Section 2: Washington County, C.R.A.G. and the State of Oregon are urged to
do their utmost to preserve and enhance the residential uses in
this area while providing for adequate vehicular circulation for
both the residential and/commercial uses located in this area.

The first project of the Association is to secure access
o. and egress from Highway 217 at the intersection of
S.W. 72nd Avenue. At present, there is no ON ramp for E
x northbound traffic and no OFF ramp for southbound traffic.
r The Association sent letters to all business and
commercial property owners within a one mile radious of

With the growth in this area in the past five years
' and the projected growth in the next five years, the ,
Association feels that completion of the S.W. 72nd/
Hwy. 217 interchange is imperative. The projected
growth figures, we would like to point out, are for
known business and commercial enterprises already in
the area.

This association believes completion of the interchange is

LU and away from residential streets. Pedestrian traffic-, especially
cc young children going to Phil Lewis School, is hampered because of
cz-lr1 vehicle traffic on S:W. 72nd, particularly at the intersections of
Mrr-= S.W. Hampton and S.W. Hunziker. The problem will grow as more
