Ordinance No. 84-02 CITY OF TIGARD, OREGON ► ORDINANCE NO. 84-QQ_ AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 2.48.030 OF THE TIGARD MUNICIPAL CODE PERTAINING TO THE RETENTION CLASSIFICATIONS OF RECORDS AND DOCUMENTS, AND ADOPTING OREGON ADMINISTRATIVE RULES, CHAPTER 166 OF THE STATE ARCHIVIST AS THE CITY'S RETENTION CLASSIFICATION, PRESCRIBING AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, State Law provides that every person has a right to inspect any public record of a public body except for records specifically exempted by state law. WHEREAS, the City generates volumes of paper work annually and it is necessary to purge the files annually to assure an expeditious and orderly filing system. WHEREAS, the Oregon Administrative Rules Chapter 166, dated December, 1980 implements state law and requires all political subdivisions of the State of Oregon to retain records and documents for specific periods of time before purging and provides procedures for the orderly retention and destruction of public records.. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF TIGARD ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS: M Section 1. Section 2. The earliest imposition of the provisions of this ordinance Nii is necessary for the public convenience and welfare in order to allow the records of the City to maintain its records in ' accordance with state law. Accordingly, an emergency is declared and this ordinance shall go into effect immediately upon passage by the Council and approval by the Mayor.
