All required tree protection measures were installed and followed through the completion of'the project. • All equipment was on root protection structures such as metal plates, heavy -duty oak matting or on site piles of d ebris. Low PSI machinery was used for all excavation work. • At Site 3, all machinery stayed on the existing pavement so additional root protection measures were not necessary. • Careful supervision occurred during excavations to prevent damage to roots larger than two (2) inches in diameter. Ensuing inspections revealed no roots larger than one and a half (1.5) inches were severed or damaged. All roots were cleanly cut back to undamaged tissue with a hand saw or loppers. • All bare soil was seeded and covered with straw, Disturbed areas on the creek level were further enhanced with fabric and staked with live willow cuttings. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you. Sin ely, i C ' ''s Matt Stine Ash. Creek Forester ISA Certified Arborist, MA -322 I • Todd Prager From: Todd Prager Sent: Friday, September 11, 2009 9:00 AM To: ' HunterR @CleanWaterServices.org'; 'dulint @cleanwaterservices.org' Cc: Kim McMillan; Cheryl Caines; Steve Martin; Martin McKnight Subject: Trees in Fanno Creek Park Hi Rich, I spoke with our Parks manager and he would like the two ponderosas that were removed to be replaced with either two larger caliper cascara or Oregon ash as was suggested by Ash Creek Forestry yesterday. This could be done at the same time the bare root trees are planted sometime between January and March of 2010. The location of the trees was near the large ponderosa next to the creek. The only remaining tree related item is the final summary arborist report documenting that the tree protection plan was implemented per plan, and the remaining trees' health and stability was not significantly impacted by the construction activities. Thanks, Todd Prager Associate Planner /Arborist City of Tigard 503.718.2700 1 Todd Prager From: Matt Stine [mstine @ashcreekforestry.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 2:34 PM To: Todd Prager Cc: dulint @cleanwaterservices.org Subject: CWS @ Fanno Creek Todd, Here is an update on my observations regarding the activities going on at Fanno Creek. The first digging site (we'll call it Site 1) located near the Ponderosa pine is complete. The bare soil has straw and grass seed. The site upstream (Site 2), on the same side of the creek is also complete. I gave the equipment operator, Mike, permission to spread the pile of soil left over from the bank excavation throughout the disturbance site, and corridor leading back up to the paved trail. I instructed him to keep the soil less than three inches deep, and make sure it gets covered with straw and grass seed. Going back downstream to Site 3, the area across from Site 1, Mike informed me that there is a stretch of pavement leading most of the way to the creek. I instructed him to make sure his equipment is on oak matting when he gets to the end of the pavement. If he is on the pavement though, he does not have to have his track -hoe on oak matting. He will be doing the necessary work there today. I will check the site as he is digging looking for large roots. The area of disturbance is relatively small, and pretty far from the ash tree so I am confident that large roots will not be encountered. Mike informed me that they will begin the installation of root wads upstream from Site 3, call it Site 4, possibly on Thursday. It appears that there is some clarification that has to occur regarding how the logs will be installed before they begin digging. Mike is going to use shorter logs, probably only 15 feet in length as opposed to the specified 30' logs. The benefit here is there will be substantially less digging towards the mature ash. I am confident that roots over three inches will not be encountered. Roots less than three inches will be hand sawn or cut with loppers. Also, all equipment will be on steel plates and /or oak matting to protect the soil. Please let me know if you have any questions. Having been in your position before I fully understand any apprehension you may have, but know that I care deeply about what happens to all of the trees out there. Thank you Todd.
