The boardwalk is supported by 2ea 3" galv. pipe piling at 8' centers. 2. Each pile has a design load of 50001b, including dead load and 1001b/sf live load. 3. The piling were driven to 10,000lb or 5 ton capacity. 4. A hydraulic jack with a pressure gauge was used to determine the actual load. 4331 psi equated to 10,000lb of load. 5. The pile were driven and tested acceptably, meeting the design requirements. 6. As time goes on, the pile will set or freeze and the pile resistance will increase significantly. This procedure was performed and witnessed by Zen Dutsen, Jeff Peck /City of Tigard, Vello, VAK Engineering, and Paul and Nick of Civil Construction. Everyone in attendance was satisfied with the acceptable results. We were not aware of this condition at the time of our design effort; however we did conduct our design with the realization and understanding that the above conditions could be present. The boardwalk members are positively attached with brackets and nails to driven piles that have uplift resistance to prevent floatation. Appropriate design loads were used to size the members adequately. Lateral loads were also considered in designing the foundation supports to resist movement. It also should be noted that the boardwalk extends from the bridge crossing the creek to a pathway near the edge of Hall Boulevard. As such, it is not in or near the main channel of Fanno Creek. Should flooding occur, flood waters will have little or no movement around the boardwalk. ' In summary, it is my position that the directive of Condition 1 has been met.
