The following item remains and needs clarification prior to the issuance of the permit. • 5 Clarify membrane penetration protection where Fire wrapped, exhaust duct from fume hood penetrates the ceiling membrane. Manufacturer's listing may have details for this application. RESPONSE PARTIALLY ACCEPTED The response submitted to this item is acceptable when supplemented with drawings. I have enclosed a copy of an International Evaluation Report. The supplemental drawings shall be in compliance with, and clarify the items identified in the International Evaluation Report. Detailing for the penetration at the floor /ceiling should be site specific and similar to Figure 3 of the report. The report requires 16 gauge duct, spec book says 20 gauge, page 15880 -1. FYI I am resistant to deferring this item. I don't want to cause the contractor to rebuild any construction if a shaft ended up being the only solution acceptable to the contractor. DOWA SUBJECT: Tigard HS Remodel- Phase 1 City of Tigard Plan Review Response 0 In regards to the plan review comments from the City of Tigard, we have the following N responses. S ✓ 1) Calculations for the attachment of rooftop units are attached. Details for the attachment are provided on detail 1 of sheet M6.1 of the construction documents. 2) The make -up air that will be interlocked with the fume hoods is provided by the L rooftop units through a control sequence (see detail 3 on sheet M5.1). The individual return air dampers provided per space are controlled to maintain a negative pressure T in the classrooms relative to the corridor. When the fume hoods are in operation, the return damper in the main duct will close allowing the air from the space to be exhausted through the fume hood. v N 3) A fire suppression system will be added in the fume hood exhaust ducts, per 510.7. Dpi° 4) The material to be used in the science and chemistry hoods include the following: G • Hydrogen Sulfide • Acetone • Isopropyl Alcohol E • Hydrochloric acid Of these materials Isopropyl Alcohol has the lowest Lower Flammability Limit (LFL) N of 2.0. If we are to stay below 25% of the LFL we need to provide at least 0.0002 CFM at each hood. Since each hood is sized for 750 CFM the requirements for G dilution are met with a significant safety factor. The above information is based on a vaporization rate of Isopropyl Alcohol of 789 onces /cu.ft. at room temperature with I exposed surface similar to laboratory conditions. Based on this we believe the N installation as designed exceeds code requirements. 5) Installation instructions for the fire - wrapped fume hood exhaust ducts, penetrating the E rated ceiling, are attached.
