This e-mail communication is to document the conversation we just had regarding the structural integrity of out -
of- sequence spaced 9 -1/2" TJI 210 series joists used in the 2nd story floor of Building 7 in Canterbury
Heights project located in Tigard, OR. The original design called for the joists to be placed at 16" on- center.
Of concern was the fact that one joist bay has a spacing of 23" on- center.
You informed me that the joist in question is the only one moved out -of- sequence; all the others are still at 16"
oc. This means that although one side of the joist has a joist bay 23" wide (actually 20- 15/16" between the
edges of the joist with a 2 -1/16" wide TJI210 series) the opposite joist bay is only 9" wide. Therefore the
amount of load the floor joist is designed to carry is the same as if used 16" oc as originally intended. I see no
problem with this application as described as it relates to our product.
The only other consideration is the thickness of the floor panels attached to our TJI joist and whether they are
capable of spanning the wider 23" (20- 15/16 ") distance between the joists. You report that the floor panel is a
23/32" thick osb with a span index of 24" oc stamped on it so it's safe to use and will also carry the intended
design load.

The wood - framed walls that are to be constructed per the structural drawings (including header construction
per detail 10/S3) are as follows:
1. The exterior walls (bearing and non - bearing).
2. Interior bearing walls.
3. Shear walls.
4. Party walls (although I can't think of any openings in the party walls thus there should be no headers).
I would consider the balance of the walls to be partitions, such as closets, pantries, fireplace framing, etc. The
partitions are non - structural in nature and need only have positive anchorage to the building framing.

In several instances in the carraige units, the framing contractor failed to add trimmer studs
in the door openings in non - bearing walls, per the detail S3/10. Instead of adding trimmers,
which will involve extensive reframing of the walls in question, we are proposing the addition
of Simpson A -35 hangers at the intersection of the king stud and header.
