The contractor was in the process of removing all water and smoke damaged materials from the building. The roof structure had been damaged. The primary area of damage was located at the roof line of the upper floor near the exit corridor between the first and second units. Many studs and top plates were burned or severely charred. It is my opinion that there does not appear to be any significant structural areas of concern except for the charred members. All material that shows sign of charring shall be replaced with like material (DF #2 or better.) Please refer to the attached sketches and details for the connection of the members to be replaced. The headers over the decks and the exit corridor shall be replaced in their entirety per the notes and details attached. A qualified truss supplier shall be hired to provide replacement trusses. The trusses and engineering shall be sealed by a licensed engineer in the State of Oregon. The trusses are to be installed per the recommendations of the truss designer. 10121 SE Sunnyside Rd. If sheathing is being replaced, it must match what is being replaced. This is true for the nailing. A minimum sheathing and nailing shall be %2" ply of 7/16 OSB with 8d nails at 4" on center edge and 12" on center field nailing. All lateral resisting elements beneath the top plate of the upper wall do not appear to be required to be replaced; therefore, the previous structure as designed is adequate. We have provided details that provide for positive attachment of the roof structure to the existing walls and beams.
