We performed a site visit on Monday, August 1, 2011 to investigate the existing framing below the proposed new roof top unit. We found the framing to be: 2x4 joists spanning 8' -O" 4x12 purlins spanning 25' -0" 5-1/8"x30" main roof beam spanning 36' -0" The proposed new roof unit will straddle the main roof beam approximately 6' -0" off the end of the beam. We recommend adding 4x8 minimum beams below the curb to pick up the corner loads. Any type of U- hanger is sufficient to support the 126 #' corner load. The existing main roof beam is sufficient to support this additional load. We have also checked the unit for seismic loading and have determined there is not resultant overturning and nominal attachment to the curb and support beam is acceptable.
