Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and other Conditions and ' Division 1 — General Requirements sections, apply to the work specified in this section. 1.2 WORK INCLUDED A. It is the intent of these specifications and the accompanying drawings to describe complete and functional site construction and utility systems. Furnish and install all material and equipment in accordance with these documents. Include all incidental items and work not specifically shown t or specified but required by good practice in a complete system. B. The drawings are diagrammatic and are based on existing information. They should be ' followed as closely as possible, yet are not intended to show every item in its exact location or all the details of the equipment. Where required by job -site conditions, relocate and provide fittings, etc., as required. Any deviations from the drawings must be approved by the owner's ' representative. 1.3 RELATED WORK A. The special conditions of this specification apply to the work specified in Sitework Division 2 that encompasses Sections 02010 through 02930. B. Uniform Building Code (UBC) 1 O. Uniform Fire Code (UFC) ' P. American Water Works Association (AWWA) 1.5 DEFINITIONS , A. Not used in this section. 1.6 SUBMITTALS A. The submittals shall be properly bound with sections clearly identified. Submittals for each section need to be complete. Partial submittals for a section shall be returned unreviewed. B. The submittals shall contain performance data and technical specifications on all materials and equipment to be used on the project. C. Shop drawings shall be included with the submittals where specifically requested in the specifications, where necessary to determine clearance, where the contractor proposes alternate equipment or material arrangements, and when requested by the owner. D. All shop drawings must be reviewed and approved by the general contractor prior to being submitted to the engineer. Any shop drawings submitted without contractor's approval stamp shall be rejected. E. Review of submittals or shop drawings by the owner and engineer does not relieve the contractor from the requirements of the contract documents unless specific approval has been requested for a given deviation. F. By submitting, the contractor /supplier certifies that the materials or equipment proposed is satisfactory for the application intended. G. Fabrication of materials and installation of equipment is not authorized prior to approval of shop drawings and vendor data. H. Alternate items installed without the owner's approval shall be replaced with the specified ' materials at the contractor's expense. The contractor assumes full responsibility that alternate items or procedures will meet the job requirements and is responsible for cost of redesign and of modifications to this and other parties' work caused by alternate items furnished under work of this section. 1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. For work on this project, comply with the applicable and/or specifically referred standards and codes published herein. Where any of the codes and standards are at variance with the drawings and specifications, the more stringent requirements shall take precedence. , B. Contractor shall be skilled in his trade and is solely responsible for compliance with health and safety regulations, performing work in a safe and competent manner, and in installation procedures required for the work outlined in these documents. C. Maintain the highest standards of workmanship throughout the project. Utilize workers only in their areas of skill, expertise, qualifications and experience. ' D. Inspect all material and equipment upon arrival at the site and return or refmish any which is not in new condition. All refinishing is subject to owner's approval. ' E. All equipment, valves, and instruments shall be installed in such a way that all components requiring operation or maintenance are readily accessible. ' F. Soils engineer or an independent testing laboratory will be retained by the owner to observe performance of work in connection with excavating, trenching, filling, backfilling, and grading. G. Readjust all work performed that does not meet technical or design requirements, but make no deviations from the contract documents without specific and written approval from the owner. 1.8 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. The equipment and materials specified herein shall be delivered f.o.b. factory with freight allowed to the jobsite and include full -value insurance coverage while in transit. ' B. Contractor shall inspect the equipment and materials for damage upon delivery and shall immediately report damage to owner and replace or repair such damage to the satisfaction of owner. ' C. Handle materials as recommended by the manufacturer, with approved equipment in a manner that will prevent damage. D. Store materials in a secure area designated by owner off the ground and in an orderly manner that will prevent damage. • ' E. Store materials subject to temperature or humidity damage in a controlled environment as recommended by the manufacturer and approved by owner. • F. Dangerous and highly combustible materials shall be packaged, shipped, and stored in compliance with Federal, OSHA, State, and local safety and fire codes as approved. ' 1.9 SCHEDULING AND SEQUENCING A. Not used in this section. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 Not used in this section. ' PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 COORDINATION ' A. Contractor shall be responsible for continual coordination of the work with other trades so as to avoid conflicts in installation. Cooperate with other trades to assure that construction proceeds ' in an orderly and timely manner. B. The contractor shall be familiar with the site configuration and constraints. Methods of construction issues such as clearances from existing trees, existing utilities, and site features are the responsibility of the contractor. ' 02034 APR 04 TIGARD HIGH SCHOOL ADDITION / REMODEL — PHASE 2 TIGARD- TUALATIN SCHOOL DISTRICT 23J 02010 -3 Primed 04/20/04 SECTION 02010 I SITEWORK GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.2 MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP A. Furnish all materials and equipment in new condition, free from defects and of size, materials, make, type and quality specified. Installation shall be in a neat and workmanlike manner. B. When two or more items of the same kind, type or class are required, use items of a single manufacturer. C. Workmanship shall be first class throughout and performed only by competent and experienced 111 workmen in a manner satisfactory to the project coordinator and/or engineer. Constant supervision of the work, either by the contractor or his competent representative, shall be maintained. Work insulated or concealed before being inspected and approved shall be opened and uncovered upon request at the contractor's expense. ' 3.3 DEMOLITION A. General: The installation of work under this contract includes removal of certain existing site I paving, structures, utilities and vegetation. The extent of this work has been noted on the drawings; however, it is probable that relatively minor additional removal or relocation of various site features may be necessary in order to install new work as shown. The contractor shall allow for and reflect in his bid the cost of this work, based on examination of present conditions. 3.4 PROTECTION A. Protect all work, material and equipment from loss or damage until project is accepted by the owner. B. As the work progresses, keep all equipment covered and cap all piping that may temporarily be left unconnected. ' C. Notify all other trades of any required precautions necessary to protect the work and personnel. 3.5 INSPECTION ' A. Contractor shall inspect his work to ensure the installation and workmanship are in accordance with acceptable industry standards and applicable codes for the work being done and with these specifications. B. All materials, equipment, and workmanship shall be subject to inspection at any time by owner. Correct any work, materials, or equipment not in accordance with these contract documents or found to be deficient or defective. 3.6 CLEANING , A. Maintain premises and public properties free from accumulations of waste, debris and rubbish during construction. ' 3.7 START -UP A. Contractor shall be responsible for proper operation of all systems, minor subsystems, and , services provided under this section. He shall coordinate start-up procedures, calibration and system check -out with all subcontractors involved. Any knowledge of remaining difficulties ' shall be brought to the attention of the owner. 3.8 CUTTING AND PATCHING ' A. Cut work as required for installation and patch to match original conditions as directed and approved by owner. Prior to cutting any existing work, locate all concealed utilities to eliminate any possible service interruption or damage. 1 3.9 CONNECTION TO EXISTING SERVICES A. Arrange time of connection with owner's representative. Hold duration of service outage as short as possible. All existing utilities and tie -in points should be considered active utilities unless otherwise indicated. B. In general, site utilities shall terminate 5' from the building line. It is the contractor.'s responsibility, however, to connect to existing stubs from buildings where indicated and to coordinate the utility connections. Conduct operations with minimum interference to public or private thoroughfares. Maintain protected egress and access at all times. I E. Do not close or obstruct roadways or sidewalks without permits. F. Maintain mechanical and electrical services to Owner occupied areas. Advise Owner in a timely I manner (minimum of 24 hours in advance) when u tilities, p lumbing, H VAC, a nd/or e lectrical service is to be interrupted. G. Provide, erect and maintain protected pedestrian egress at all times. I 1.06 PRE- DEMOLITION MEETING I A. Contractor to schedule meeting minimum of seven (7) days prior to start of demolition. B. Attendance: Contractor, demolition superintendent, Architect and District representative. I PART 2 PRODUCTS I Not Used. I PART 3 EXECUTION ') 3.01 PREPARATION IN A. Prevent movement or settlement of adjacent structures. Provide bracing and shoring as needed. B. Erect and maintain waterproof closures for exterior openings. Maintain in a waterproof condition I for the duration of time all such construction is exposed to the weather. C. Protect existing structures which are not to be demolished. I D. Disconnect, remove, and cap designated utility lines within demolition areas. E. Erect and maintain temporary partitions to prevent spread of dust, fumes and smoke, to other parts of the existing building. F. Protect existing items which are not indicated to be altered. I G. Mark location of disconnected utilities. Identify utility, indicate capping locations and distance from finish floor on Project Record Documents. H. The Owner will within seven days notice from Contractor transfer any undesignated and freestanding furnishings and equipment out of the Work area. I 3.02 EXECUTION A. Noise Control: Maintain a reasonable degree of quietness throughout progress of the Work so as , to not disturb classes in session in adjoining rooms or buildings or annoy residents of the ) neighborhood. Rotary machines and tools must operate below OSHA noise and fume standards. 02054 TIGARD HIGH SCHOOL ADDITION / REMODEL - PHASE II I MAY 04 TIGARD — TUALATIN SCHOOL DISTRICT 23J 02060 -2 Printed 5/3/04 I SECTION 02060 BUILDING DEMOLITION Concrete sawing and jack hammering shall be performed after regular school hours up to 9:00 p.m I (confirm with applicable city regulatory agencies). B. Demolish indicated structures and appurtenances in an orderly and careful manner. I C. Stage demolition as necessary to meet Owners access /egress and mechanical /electrical requirements. I D. Cease operations and notify Architect immediately if adjacent structures appear to be endangered. Do not resume operations until corrective measures have been taken. I E. The Contractor shall employ a demolition foreman knowledgeable in identification of asbestos containing materials and shall instruct workmen at the Site to be on the look -out for materials that may contain asbestos fibers and to not disturb or attempt to remove such materials. I F. The Contractor shall carefully demolish walls, ceilings, etc., which contain concealed space to allow visual inspection for any material which may be suspect of containing asbestos fibers prior to total scheduled demolition. I G. Should the Contractor discover any materials which he suspects of containing asbestos fibers, the Contractor shall stop working immediately and shall not carry on any activities in that area that I could disturb such materials. The School District will evaluate the circumstances and instruct the Contractor on how and when to proceed with the Work. H. The Contractor shall take every precaution to prevent the spread of asbestos fibers throughout the Work under this Contract. The Contractor shall not break up and/or attempt to remove or actually remove from the Work area any material suspected of containing asbestos fibers (i.e., pipe insulation, sprayed on fireproofing). I I. Asbestos fibers carried around the Work area or into the existing structure due to the Contractor's carelessness or failure to follow the procedures herein shall, at the Contractor's expense, be cleaned I up in accordance with E.P.A. requirements. J. Items requiring demolition and removal include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Exterior and interior walls. 2. Metal flashing and accessories. 3. Roofing including membrane, flashings, and decking. 4. Doors and Frames. I 5. Window framework and glazing. 6. Casework. 7. Asphalt paving. I 8. Flooring Finishes (Tile and other materials containing asbestos to be removed by District.) 9. Mechanical equipment. 10. Plumbing fixtures. I 11. Electrical equipment. K. Salvaged Items: I 1. Remove materials to be re- installed or retained in manner to prevent damage. Store and protect under provisions of Section 01600. 2. Coordinate with Owner for lists of items to be salvaged. Remove materials to be re- installed or retained in manner to prevent damage. Store and protect under provisions of Section 01600. ' M. Demolition Drawings are diagrammatic and are intended to assist the Contractor in establishing the general scope of work. Include all demolition work required to complete the project whether or not specifically shown on demolition Drawings. N. Except where noted otherwise, immediately remove demolished material from site. O. Remove and promptly dispose of contaminated, vermin infested, or dangerous materials encountered. P. Do not burn or bury materials on site. Q. Remove foundation walls and footings completely. R. Remove designated concrete slabs on grade and asphaltic paving. S. Keep work sprinkled to minimize dust. Provide hoses and water main or hydrant connections for this purpose as approved by governing authority. T. Backfill areas excavated as a result of demolition as required to subgrade. Use backfill material specified in Division 2. U. Rough grade and compact areas affected by demolition to subgrade maintain site grades and contours. V. Remove demolished materials from site as work progresses. Leave site in clean condition. Prevent the spread of dust and debris to occupied portions of the building and avoid the creation of a nuisance or hazard in the surrounding area. Do not use water if it results in hazardous or objectionable conditions such as, but not limited to, ice, flooding, or pollution. B. Vacuum and dust the work area daily. Sweep pavements as often as necessary to control the spread of debris that may result in foreign object damage potential to aircraft. 1.11 PROTECTION A. Traffic Control Signs: Where pedestrian and driver safety is endangered in the area of removal work, use traffic barricades with flashing lights. B. Existing Work: Protect existing work that is to remain in place, be reused, or remain the property of the Owner. Repair items that are to remain which are to be salvaged and which are damaged during performance of the work to their original condition, or replace with new. Do not overload structural elements or pavements to remain. Provide new supports and reinforcement for existing construction weakened by demolition or removal work. Repairs, reinforcement, or structural replacement must have Owner approval. C. Weather Protection: Protect electrical and mechanical services and utilities. Where removal of existing utilities and pavement is specified or indicated, provide approved barricades, temporary covering of exposed areas, and temporary services or connections for electrical and mechanical utilities. Utilities and Related Equipment: Remove existing utilities as indicated and terminate in a ' manner conforming to the nationally recognized code covering the specific utility. Provide neat sawcuts at limits of pavement removal as indicated. ' 3.2 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS ' A. Do not perform coring and sawing of concrete and masonry from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekdays in densely populated neighborhoods without permission from Owner's representative. B. Schedule other noisy construction activities with Owner's representative. ' C. During dry weather, sprinkle exposed soil materials and demolition debris with water to limit dust in the air. D. Do not cause soil erosion, flooding, or contaminated runoff with sprinkling activities. E. Do not begin site demolition until known hazardous materials have been removed from the . construction area. 3.3 FILLING ' A. Fill holes, open basements, and other hazardous openings in accordance with Section 02315, "Earthwork." 3.4 DISPOSITION OF MATERIAL ' A. Title to Materials: Except where indicated, all materials and equipment once removed, and not reused, shall become the property of the contractor and shall be removed from the project site. 1 The Owner will not be responsible for the condition or loss of, or damage to, such property after contract award. Not used in this section. 1.10 PROTECTION A. Shoring and Sheeting: Provide shoring and sheeting where indicated. Prevent undermining of pavements and slabs. Slope banks where space permits. ' B. Dewatering: Include the disposal of surface water which may accumulate in open excavations, unfinished fills, or other low areas. On -Site Material: Excavated onsite native material shall not be used as structural fill material under structures, pavements, or sidewalks. B. Imported Structural Fill Material: Selected natural fill material from off -site borrow shall consist of the following or a blend thereof well graded free draining or crushed rock up to 3" in maximum size with not more than 5% of fines passing through a #200 sieve. Imported ' structural fill material shall be used under the building from subgrade elevation to leveling course elevation. Thickness of base rock structural fill material shall vary in accordance with depth of subgrade and design finish floor elevation. Imported structural fill shall extend a minimum of 4 feet beyond the exterior building line. Perimeter slopes of structural fill shall be ' 45° minimum. C. Imported Leveling Course Material: Place compacted 6" layer of 3/4" minus, free - draining, ' crushed rock with less than 5% fines passing through the #200 sieve under all building floor slabs. ' 2.2 GENERAL BACKFILL BESIDE STRUCTURES A. On -Site Material: Clean, on site native material, is suitable for use as General Backfill Beside Structures if it can be placed in accordance with these specifications. The construction documents make no representation or warrantees of soil quantities. Contractor is responsible for determining all quantities of materials necessary to complete the project. B. All necessary imported soil materials as shown in the design documents shall be supplied by the Contractor. Site Stripping: All topsoil and organic bearing material, including fill, shall be stripped and wasted off site. If organic soils are found after the stripping operation, localized areas containing these materials shall be over- excavated and backfilled with engineered structural fill. ' B. Grubbing: Grub out all stumps and roots larger than 1 -1/2 inches in diameter. Remove all scrap metal and foreign materials. C. Disposal: Remove all existing paving, concrete, and structures as required for demolition. Cleared and demolished materials to be removed from the site. 3.3 AVOIDANCE AND CORRECTION OF DETRIMENTAL OPERATIONS A. Perform all operations involved in excavating, hauling, and placing of earthwork materials so no damage or detriment to the completed or partially completed work results. At all times provide sufficient drainage of completed or partially completed earthwork to prevent damage or loss due to rainfall, surface water or any other cause. ' 3.4 ROUNDING OF CUTBANKS A. As part of the earthwork, blend the tops of cutbanks with the adjacent ground by rounding as • called for by the plans. 3.5 TEMPORARY EXCAVATION AND SHORING 1 A. In general, cuts of less than four feet in depth may be made as steep as the soil can stand, without shoring. Open cuts greater than four feet in depth shall be either shored or graded to a safe slope. Temporary excavation slope should not be steeper than 1.5:1 (Horizontal:Vertical). ' B. The selection and construction of any shoring system should be the responsibility of the contractor. The installation of any shoring system shall be conducted such that the safety of ' workmen, equipment, existing utilities and structures are ensured. All shoring systems shall be in compliance with the current local, state and federal codes and practices and shall conform to Section 02250, "Shoring and Bracing ". ' 3.6 DRAINAGE AND DEWATERING A. Plan for and provide the structures, equipment, and construction for the collection and disposal of surface and subsurface water encountered in the course of construction. B. Dispose of surface water which may accumulate in open excavations, unfinished fills, or other low areas. Remove water by trenching where approved, pumping, or other methods to prevent softening of exposed surfaces. C. Groundwater flowing toward or into excavations shall be controlled to prevent sloughing or excavation slopes and walls, boils, uplift and heave in the excavation and to eliminate interference with orderly progress of construction. French drains, sumps, ditches or trenches will not be permitted within 3' of the foundation of any structure. D. Excavate for slabs, and other improvements to sizes and levels shown or required. Allow for form clearance and for proper compaction of required backfilling material. B. All footings bases to bear on firm, natural, undisturbed soil free of organic material or on engineered fill. C. All soft, wet soil, or soil of unusual condition shall be excavated to firm, natural, undisturbed soil, and backfilled with specified fill materials. I D. Contractor's Inadvertent Over - Excavation: Backlit' and compact all over - excavated areas as specified for fill below at no additional cost to the owner. E. Excess Fill Materials: All excavated materials not required for backfilling or other portions of the work shall be removed from the site. F. Pile Supported Foundations: Excavate to elevation of bottom of pile cap. Backlit' and compact over excavations and changes in grade due to pile driving operations in accordance with the requirements. 1 G. Rock: Remove rock to the elevations required by approved methods in such a manner that will leave the foundation rock in an unshattered and solid condition. Roughen level surfaces and cut 111 slope surfaces into benches for bond with concrete. Protect shale from conditions causing decomposition along joints or cleavage planes and other types of erosion. Removal of rock beyond the lines and grades indicated unless previously authorized will not be grounds for claim of additional payment. 3.8 FILLING AND BACKFILLING A. Subgrade Preparation: Step, bench, or break up sloped surfaces steeper than one vertical to 4 ' horizontal so that the fill material will bond with or be securely keyed to the existing material. Scarify existing surface to a minimum depth of 8" if subgrade density is less than the degree of compaction specified and recompact. When the subgrade is part fill and part excavation or natural ground, scarify the excavated or natural ground portion to a depth of 8" and recompact as specified for the adjacent of overlying fill. Compact with equipment well suited to the soil being compacted. Moisten or aerate material as necessary to provide the moisture content that will readily facilitate obtaining the specified compaction with the equipment used. B. General Backlit' Beside Structures: Place required backfill material adjacent to structures and compact in a manner that prevents wedging action or eccentric loading upon or against the structures. Step or serrate slopes bounding or within areas to be backfilled to prevent sliding of the fill. Moisten or aerate material as necessary to provide the moisture content that will readily facilitate obtaining the specified compaction with the equipment used. Do not place material on surfaces that are muddy, frozen, or contain frost. Do not use equipment for backfilling operations or for the formation of embankments against structures that will overload the structure. Backfilling against concrete will be done only after the concrete has attained its 28- day compressive strength. C. Structural Fill: Place structural fill material under spread footing, concrete slabs not pile supported, in loose lifts of 8 ". Do not place material on surfaces that are muddy, frozen, or contain frost. Compact with equipment well suited to the soil being compacted. Moisten or aerate material as necessary to provide the moisture content that will readily facilitate obtaining the specified compaction with the equipment used. Compaction shall be accomplished continuously over the entire area. Sufficient passes shall be made to ensure that specified density is obtained. I 3.9 WET WEATHER EARTHWORK A. If earthwork takes place in wet weather or wet conditions, where control of soil moisture content I is not possible, the following recommendations are to be as follows: 1. Earthwork shall be accomplished in small sections and carried through to completion to • I minimize exposure to wet weather. If there is to be traffic over the exposed subgrade, the subgrade shall be protected with a compacted layer of 1 -1/4" minus crushed rock, at least 8" thick. I 2. The ground surface in the construction areas shall be sloped and sealed with a smooth drum roller to promote the rapid runoff of precipitation and to prevent ponding of water. No soil shall be left uncompacted. Soils which become too wet for compaction shall be I removed and replaced with clean granular material. 3. Work areas, soil stockpiles, or slopes shall be covered with plastic, and sloping, ditching I sumps, dewatering and other measures should be employed as necessary to permit proper completion of the work. Bales of straw and geotextile sediment fences shall be used to control soil erosion. 1 3.10 COMPACTION STANDARDS A. Native, in -situ soils underlying retaining wall foundations, building foundations, floor slabs and/or pavements or structural fill shall be proof - rolled to a uniform dry density of 95% of the - Modified Proctor maximum dry density (ASTM D1557). B. All Structural Fill Material beneath footings, slabs, walls, and structures shall be spread in I uniform lifts not to exceed eight inches in thickness and compacted to 95% of its maximum Modified Proctor (ASTM D1557) dry density. The water content at the time of compaction shall be within 3 percent of optimum. I C. Structural Fill Material supporting pavement structures shall be placed in layers not exceeding 8 inches in compacted thickness. Each layer of structural fill shall be compacted to a uniform dry I density of 95 percent of the Modified Proctor maximum dry density (ASTM D1557). It shall be tested for compaction as construction progresses. Water content at the time of compaction shall be within 3 percent of optimum. I D. General Backfill beside structures shall be placed in layers not to exceed 8" in thickness and compacted to 92 percent of its maximum modified proctor (ASTM D 1557) dry density. Water content at the time of connection shall be within 3 percent of optimum. I E. Retaining wall backfill should be compacted to 95 percent of the Modified Proctor dry density (ASTM D1557) beyond 36 inches from the wall, and to 90 percent within 36 inches of the wall. Lateral bracing shall be provided to support the wall prior to placement and compaction of the I backfill. Alternatively, the backfill within 36 inches of the wall may be placed in thin lifts, at not more than 8 inches in loose thickness, and compacted with small compaction equipment. It is the contractor's responsibility to select the appropriate compacting equipment and procedure I to achieve the recommended compacted density, and to ensure that the compaction will not result in damage to the retaining walls. F. Dewatering: Groundwater flowing toward or into excavations shall be controlled to prevent sloughing of excavation slopes and walls, boils, uplift and heave in the excavation and to eliminate interference with orderly progress of construction. French drains, sumps, ditches or trenches will not be permitted within 3 feet of the foundation of any structure. 3.4 PAVED AREAS A. Sawcut paved areas for utility trenching. Allow for new paving overlap beyond trench sidewall as indicated. Do not disturb adjacent paving more than necessary. 3.5 PROTECTION ' A. Underground Utilities: Location of any existing utilities indicated is approximate. The contractor shall physically verify the location and elevation of the existing utilities indicated prior to starting construction. The contractor shall contact the contracting officer for assistance in locating existing utilities. B. Structures and Surfaces: Protect newly backfilled areas and adjacent structures, slopes, or grades from traffic, erosion settlement, or any other damage. Repair and reestablish damaged or eroded grades and slopes and restore surface construction prior to acceptance. Protect existing streams, ditches, and storm drain inlets from water -borne soil by means of erosion control measures as indicated on the contract drawings. C. Channels and Ditches: Construct (rip -rap) rock protection in areas indicated to the lines and thicknesses indicated to dissipate stream energy and prevent channel erosion. Place rip -rap on a layer of filter fabric. 3.6 TRENCH FOUNDATION , A. Trench foundation is defined as the bottom of the trench in which the pipe bedding is to lay and is responsible for support of the pipe. B. When in the judgment of the owner, the existing material in the bottom of the trench is unsuitable for supporting the pipe, excavate below the pipe as directed. Place backfill in trench 111 to subgrade or pipe bedding with trench foundation material over full width of the trench and compact layers not exceeding 6 inches deep to the required grade. 3.7 PIPE BEDDING , A. Pipe bedding is defined as the furnishing and placing of specified materials on the trench foundation so as to uniformly support the barrel of the pipe. B. Pipe bedding consists of leveling the bottom of the trench or the top of the foundation material and placing bedding material to the horizontal centerline of the pipe. Place specified bedding material in at least two lifts. Place first lift to provide the minimum 6 inch depth of bedding material shown on the plan before the pipe is installed. Spread bedding smoothly to proper grade so the pipe is uniformly supported along the barrel and excavate bell holes at each joint to permit proper assembly and inspection of the entire joint. C. Place subsequent lifts of not more than 6 inches in thickness up to the horizontal centerline of the pipe. Bring lifts up together on both sides of the pipe and carefully work under the pipe by slicing with a shovel or other approved procedure. Pay particular attention to the area from the flow line to the horizontal centerline of the pipe or top of bedding to insure that firm support is obtained to prevent any lateral movement of the pipe during the final backfilling of the pipe zone. Place pipe bedding full width of trench. 3.8 PIPE ZONE A. Pipe zone is defined as the full width of the trench from the top of the bedding to 6 inches above the top outside surface of the barrel of the pipe. ' B. Place specified pipe zone material carefully around the pipe in 6 inch layers and thoroughly hand tamp with approved sticks supplemented by walking in and slashing with a shovel. ' Prevent pipe from moving either horizontally or vertically during placement and compaction of the pipe zone material. Mechanical compactors are prohibited for placement of fill in the pipe zone. Compact pipe zone to 90% of maximum density per ASTM D1557. 1 3.9 TRENCH BACKFILL A. Trench backfill is defined as furnishing, placing and compacting of material in the trench between the top of the pipe zone material and the bottom of the pavement base rock ground surface or surface material as directed. ' B. Owner's representative will sample excavated material to determine suitability of native material for use as trench backfill. Should native material not be acceptable, imported trench backfill material will be used as previously specified under materials. ' • C. Backfill trench above the pipe zone to within 8 inches of the final surface grade shown on the plans in lifts not to exceed 8 inches of loose depth. In unpaved areas, compact each lift to minimum 92% of maximum density as determined by ASTM D1557 with mechanical vibrators or impact tampers. Compact trench areas at paving and inside building areas to 95% of maximum density as determined by ASTM D 1557. 3.10 MANHOLES, VAULTS, AND OTHER APPURTENANCES A. Provide at least 12" clear from outer surfaces to the embankment or shoring. Remove unstable soil that is incapable of supporting the structure to an overdepth of 12" and refill with pipe ' bedding material to the proper elevation. Compact to 90 percent of ASTM D 1557 maximum density. 3.11 BURIED WARNING IDENTIFICATION TAPE A. Install tape in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations except as modified herein. When temporary steel plates are installed over a street cut, they shall be capable of carrying at least an MS -18 loading. Do not mix the topsoil with other excavated material. After the trench has been backfilled, replace the topsoil. In lieu of stockpiling the topsoil, approved imported topsoil may be substituted. I B. Maintain the finished grade of the topsoil level with the area adjacent to the trench until final acceptance. Repair damage to adjacent topsoil caused by the contractor's operations. Remove all rock, gravel, clay and other foreign materials from the surface. Regrade and add topsoil as required. 3.14 PAVED AREAS 1 A. Use saws to cut Portland cement concrete pavement, curbs and sidewalks, regardless of thickness. In bituminous pavement, when no pavement overlay will occur, saw -cut the pavement along each edge of the area to be removed. Saw cutting is not required in roadways • that will receive a pavement overlay. B. Upon completion of backfill and just prior to pavement re- surfacing, saw the surfacing on both sides of the trench a minimum of 6 inches wider than each top of the trench. In areas of any undermined or damaged surfacing, re -saw to a width outside these areas. When saw - cutting, follow lines parallel to the pipe centerline. C. Where the width changes in areas of asphalt pavement re- surfacing, cut the transition between the different widths at 45 degrees. When the pipe line changes direction, or there is a connecting pipe line that requires the saw cut alignment to change at. an angle greater than 60 degrees, make a minimum 24 inch transition saw cut. If there is damaged or undermined surfacing. Make the transition saw cut angle half the angle change in the direction of the pipe line or connecting line. ' D. A second saw cut for concrete sidewalks, driveways and pavements will not be required unless needed to reach firm subgrade. 3.15 FINISH OPERATIONS A. Place final proper surface as required. Subsequent settlement of the trench during warranty period will be considered result of improper compaction and shall be promptly corrected. B. Pavement Repair: Repair pavement, curbs, and gutters as indicated. Do not repair pavement until trench or pit has been backfilled and compacted as specified herein. Provide a temporary road surface of gravel over backfilled portion until permanent pavement is repaired. Remove and dispose of temporary road surface material when permanent pavement is placed. As a minimum, maintain one -way traffic on roads and streets crossed by trenches. Fully open roads and streets to traffic within 3 days. 3.16 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL ' A. Temporary Stabilization: Stabilize exposed soil surfaces not at finish grade at all times and soil surfaces at finish grades when working outside the permanent seeding dates. Temporary 1 stabilization includes temporary seeding, mulching, and erosion control matting. Schedule temporary stabilization on a 14 -day basis or more frequently if needed. B. Permanent Stabilization: Permanently stabilize exposed soil surfaces at finished grade. Permanent stabilization methods include riprap protection, seeding, and mulching. Permanent stabilization includes stabilization of temporary features such as detours, stockpiles, and staged I earthwork. Immediately perform permanent stabilization at each completed excavation and embankment area except for areas that are scheduled to be redisturbed. C. If seed of any kind is applied and has not achieved 70% density of the surrounding existing grass areas prior to the end of the permanent seeding dates, then apply additional stabilization measures other than seeding. 3.4 SLOPE PROTECTION AND EROSION CONTROL A. Site preparation should include the removal of all grasses, brush, and sod. Vehicle and foot traffic should be minimized on bearing surfaces or above prepared subgrade areas to reduce the amount of disturbed material that would need to be excavated prior to pouring foundation concrete or the placement of structural fill. B. Temporary cut slopes included at 1- 1 /2H:1V or steeper be covered with Visqueen sheeting and have maintained cutoff or diversion ditches shall be at the top of the slopes to prevent surface water flowing over the excavation face. The bags shall be disposed of at a local recycling or solid waste disposal facility. 3.6 MONITORING A. Receiving Stream: Observe and record turbidity within 25 feet upstream and downstream of , locations where surface waters from the construction site enter the stream. Inspect all pipe prior to placement in the trench and if necessary clean any material tending to plug pipe. I D. Provide proper tools, labor and equipment for efficient execution of the work. Lubricant for the pipe gaskets shall be furnished by the pipe manufacturer, and no substitutes will be permitted under any circumstances. H. Mechanical joint fittings vary slightly with different manufacturers. Install the particular fittings furnished in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. In general, the procedure shall be as hereinafter specified. Clean the ends of the fittings of all dirt, mud, and foreign matter by washing with water and scrubbing with a wire brush, after which. Slip the gland and gasket on the plain end of the pipe. If necessary, lubricate the end of the pipe to facilitate sliding the gasket in place. Then guide the fitting onto the spigot of the pipe previously laid. I. Pipelines intended to be straight shall not deviate from the straight line at any joint in excess of one inch horizontally or vertically. Wherever it is necessary to deflect pipe from a straight line either in a vertical or horizontal plane, to avoid obstructions, or where long radius curves are permitted, the amount of deflection allowed shall not exceed 5 degrees per joint. J. Provide reaction or thrust blocking, as shown, or as directed. The concrete mix shall have a compressive strength of not less than 3,000 pounds per square inch. Place blocking between the undisturbed ground and the fitting to be anchored. The bearing surface shall be as shown on Detail No. 20. Place the blocking so that the pipe and fitting joints will be accessible for repairs, unless otherwise shown. K. Install valves, fittings, hydrants, and thrust blocking in accordance with AWWA C 600. ' L. PVC Pipe: Perforated PVC pipe conforming to ASTM D3034 and SDR 35. The perforations ' shall consist of two rows of two inch slots. The slots shall be transverse to the axis of the pipe. The two rows of slots shall be 120 degrees on centers. Slot size shall be 0.4 inches. ' 2.3 JOINTING MATERIALS A. Use only lubricants for jointing materials approved by the manufacturer. ' B. PVC Pipe: Use rubber gaskets for PVC pipe conforming to ASTM F477. 2.4 SUBDRAINAGE FILTERS ' A. Subdrainage geotextile fabric: See Section 02350. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 TRENCHING A. General: Perform all necessary excavation and backfill required for the installation of work. Any piping or other work damaged by the contractor's operations shall be repaired at contractor's expense. B. Water: Keep all excavations free of standing water. Excavations damaged or softened by water or frost shall be re- excavated and filled back to original level with material by the contractor at his own expense. C. Trench Excavation: Excavate site trenches to the necessary depth and width, removing rocks, unstable soil (muck, peat, etc.), roots and stumps. Cost of additional excavation to facilitate ' utility crossovers, additional offsets, extra bedding connections to existing utilities, connections to plumbing fixtures, etc., shall be borne by the contractor. Excavation material is unclassified. Width of trench shall be adequate for proper installation of piping or conduit. 3.2 GENERAL A. Install all piping and appurtenances in accordance with vendor's recommendation. ' B. All field joints made in joining of sections of pipe to form culverts and sewers, and to connect to structures in special sections to be closely fitted, tight, providing a smooth and uniform interior surface. Resilient connectors for making joints between manhole and pipes entering manhole shall conform to ASTM C923. ' 2.5 METAL ITEMS A. Standard Frames, Covings, and Gratings: Frames, covers, and gratings shall be of cast iron per ' ASTM A 48. Frames, covers, and gratings shall be rated for AASHTO H -20 traffic loading. B. Manhole Steps: Shall conform to ASTM C478 and shall be of zinc coated or polypropylene ' coated steel. Aluminum steps or rungs will not be permitted. Steps are not required in manholes, curb inlets, or catch basins less than four feet deep. C. Metal Catch Basins: Shall be 10 gauge steel catch basins specified for AASHTO H -20 highway ' loading. Interior coated with asphalt coating. Manufactured by Lynch Company or approved equal. 2.6 WATER QUALITY FILTER CATCH BASINS A. All internal components including PVC piping, filter cartridge(s) and filter media (as specified in the StormFilter data block) shall be provided by Stormwater Management Inc., 2035 NE I Columbia Blvd., Portland, OR 97211 (800) 548 -4667. B. PVC Piping: All internal PVC piping and fittings shall meet ASTM D1785. ' C. Filter Cartridge: Cartridge bottom pan, inner ring, and hood shall be constructed from linear low- density polyethylene. Cartridge screen shall consist of galvanized 1" x 1/2" welded wire fabric (16 gauge minimum) with a bonded PVC coating. Internal parts shall consist of PVC or ABS pipe and fittings. Siphon - priming float shall be constructed from linear low- density polyethylene. Outer filter fabric shall be 10 x 8.5 clear fiberglass mesh. Inner filter fabric shall be 10 x 8.5 clear fiberglass mesh over Enkamat 7210 or woven polyethylene with a US Standard ' Sieve #20 opening size. All miscellaneous screws, nuts, and fasteners shall be aluminum or stainless steel. ' D. An orifice plate shall be supplied with each cartridge to restrict flow rate to 15 gpm maximum. E. Filter Media: Filter media shall be by Stormwater Management or approved alternate. Filter media shall consist of perlite media, as specified in the StormFilter data block. Perlite media ' shall be made of natural siliceous volcanic rock free of any debris or foreign matter. The expanded perlite shall have a bulk density ranging from 6.5 to 8.5 lb/ft3 and particle sizes ranging from 0.06 to 0.50 inches. ' F. Steel Catch Basin: Catch basin shall be all welded steel construction, fabricated from 1/4 -inch steel, coated inside and out with asphaltic paint, and rated for 20,000 lb loading. ' G. Catch Basin Grate: Grating shall be ductile iron construction and rated for 20,000 lb loading. H. D. Inspect all pipe prior to placement in the trench and if necessary clean any material tending to plug pipe. E. Provide proper tools, labor, and equipment for efficient execution of the work. All pipe and fittings to be carefully lowered into the trench to avoid contamination. F. The work covered by this section shall terminate at a point approximately 5 feet from the building unless otherwise indicated on the drawings. G. Connections to Existing Lines: Make connections to existing lines in an approved manner. Conduct work so that there is minimum interruption of service on existing line. , 3.3 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS A. Cast -Iron and Ductile Iron Soil Piping: Install pipe and fittings in accordance with the general ' requirements for installation of pipelines and with the recommendations of the pipe manufacturer. Make joints with the rubber gaskets previously specified for joints with this piping. Assemble joints in accordance with the recommendations of the pipe manufacturer and AWWA C6 B. PVC Plastic Piping: Install pipe and fittings in accordance with the general requirements for installation of pipelines and with the requirements of ASTM D2321 for laying and joining pipe and fittings. Make joints with the gaskets previously specified joints with this piping; assemble these joints in accordance with the requirements of ASTM D2321 for assemble of joints. Forming of Gravity Manhole Base and Invert. Form the invert t a half circle before initial set of the concrete with a smooth transition from inlet to out. Apply final grout coat to the manhole ' base with a sack finish. Apply Portland Cement grout to the joint between the sewer pipe and the manhole wall inside and out to insure a watertight seal. B. Place the first manhole riser section before the concrete base has taken its initial set. Bed the ring into the concrete. Apply Portland Cement grout inside and out to insure a watertight seal. C. Place the manhole riser and cone sections together using full bed of Portland Joint compound or I rubber gasket to insure a watertight joint. D. When using rubber gasket material, prime both ends of manhole cone and risers. Apply primer ' to clean and dry concrete. Install rubber gasket in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. E. Use flat slab top for manholes 5 feet or less in height, and eccentric cone section for manholes ' over 5 feet in height. Height, measured from centerline invert to rim elevation, will be used. 3.5 WATER QUALITY FILTER CATCH BASINS ' A. Backfill: Shall be 3/4 -inch minus rock or as otherwise specified in the general technical specifications. B. Catch basin floor shall be set level and plumb. C. Contractor shall prevent sediment and debris from entering the filter unit during construction. • ' D. Contractor shall compact sub -base to 95% of maximum density or as otherwise specified by engineer. Unsuitable material below sub -grade shall be replaced as directed by engineer. E. If necessary, the inlet chamber may be filled with clean water to assist in preventing flotation during construction until the structure is backfilled and the concrete collar is poured. ' F. Contractor shall compact backfill to 95% of maximum density or as otherwise specified by engineer. G. Catch basin outlet shall be connected to downstream (and upstream, if applicable) piping using a flexible -type coupling. H. Concrete perimeter slab shall be constructed I foot wide and 6 inches thick. Slab shall include two #4 rebar hoops with minimum 6 -inch overlap at closure. Allow 2 -inch vertical spacing between hoops and minimum 2 -inch clearance from concrete surfaces. I. Catch Basin Storm Filter shall be provided complete with cartridge(s) and cartridge media installed. ' J. The project site shall be clean and free of dirt and debris before runoff is allowed to enter the filter. Site work shall be in a complete condition as approved by the engineer. The project site includes any surface that contributes storm drainage to the system. The inlet/outlet chamber and filter chamber(s) shall be free of construction debris and sediment before the system is placed in ' operation. The 4 -inch cleanout plug in the overflow weir wall shall remain in place for proper operation of the system 3.6 TRACER WIRE ' A. Install tracer wire in all trenches for sanitary sewers. Place the tracer wire directly over the pipe centerline and on top of the pipe zone material. Splice a branch tracer wire at each manhole and extend a single wire up the outside of the manhole. Drill a 10 mm (3/8 inch) diameter hole through the manhole wall within 0.5 m (18 inches) of the finish grade of the manhole rim. Extend the wire through the hole with a 1 m (3 foot) minimum length of coiled wire inside the manhole. Seal the opening in the manhole wall with silicone sealant. Place a branch tracer wire over each pipe connected to the main sewer. Make tracer wire splices using a high- pressure compression type solderless connector to securely join the wires both mechanically and electrically. Insulate splices to be moisture and waterproof. Splices wrapped with tape will not be accepted as waterproof. Have all splice kits approved prior to installation. Test all tracer wire with locating equipment prior to acceptance. 3.7 HYDROSTATIC TESTING (GRAVITY LINES) ' A. Notify Owner, local Plumbing Inspector, and Public Works Inspector two days before tests. B. Pipe and joints shall sustain losses not exceeding 0.04 gallons per hour per inch diameter per 100 feet when field tested by exfiltration methods, except 0.3 gallons per hour may be used in arid climate zones if approved by the engineer. ' C. The hydrostatic head for test purposes shall exceed the maximum estimated ground water level in the section being tested by at least 72 inches and in no case shall be less than 72 inches above the inside top of the highest section of pipe in the test section, including service connections. The engineer shall make the final decisions regarding test height for the water in the pipe section being tested. The length of pipe tested by exfiltration shall be limited so that the pressure on the invert of the lower end of the section shall not exceed 28 feet of water column. I D. The pipe test section may be filled 24 hours prior to time of exfiltration testing, if desired, to permit normal absorption into the pipe walls to take place. E. All service connection footage shall be taken into account in computing allowable leakage. 3.8 DEFLECTION TESTING FOR FLEXIBLE PIPE ' A. Make a deflection test on entire length of installed plastic pipeline on completion of all work adjacent to and over the pipeline, including tests, backfilling, placement of fill, grading, paving, concreting, and any other superimposed loads. Deflection of pipe in the installed pipeline under all external loads shall not exceed 4.5 percent of the normal inside diameter of pipe. Determine whether the allowable deflection has been exceeded by use of a pull - through device, or a deflection measuring device. B. Measure deflections through each run of installed pipe. If deflection readings in excess of 4.5 percent of normal inside diameter of pipe are obtained, retest pipe. If retest continues to show a deflection in excess of 4.5 percent of normal diameter of pipe, replace pipe that has excessive deflection and completely retest in same manner and under same conditions as previously specified. 3.9 REPAIRS A. Areas of completed base course that are damaged prior to asphalt placement shall be conditioned, reshaped and recompacted in accordance with the requirements of this specification at no additional cost. ' 3.4 FINISH SURFACE A. The finish surface of base course, when tested for uniformity of slope, shall not deviate at any ' point more than 3/8 inch from bottom of a 10 -foot straightedge laid in any direction. When base course is constructed in more than one layer, specified smoothness requirements shall apply only to top surface. ' 3.5 PRIME COAT A. Prior to the application of the asphaltic concrete, apply a prime coat of liquid asphalt at the rate of .25 gallons per square yard on the prepared compacted base in accordance with the standard specifications. When frequency of testing will provide fewer than five strength tests for a given class of concrete, conduct testing from at least five randomly selected batches or from each batch if fewer than five are used. I D. When total quantity of a given class of concrete is less than 50 cu. yd. Architect may waive strength testing if adequate evidence of satisfactory strength is provided. I E. When strength of field -cured cylinders is less than 85% of companion laboratory-cured cylinders, evaluate current operations and provide corrective procedures for protecting and curing the in -place concrete. I F. Strength level of concrete will be considered satisfactory if averages of sets of three consecutive strength test results equal or exceed specified compressive strength and no individual strength I test result falls below specified compressive strength by more than 500 psi. G. Test results will be reported in writing to architect, concrete manufacturer, and Contractor within 24 hours of testing. Reports of compressive strength tests shall contain the Project I identification name and number, date of concrete placement, name of concrete testing agency, concrete type and class, location of concrete batch in paving, design compressive strength at 28 days, concrete mix proportions and materials, compressive breaking strength, and type of break I for both 7 -day and 28 -day tests. Threaded Joints: Thread pipes with tapered pipe threads according to ASME BI.20.1, apply tape I or joint compound, and apply wrench to valve ends into which pipes are being threaded. B. Wire size shall be minumum 14 AWG. Comply with wire sizing chart published by manufacturer of automatic control valves. C. Make splices moistureproof using waterproof electrical connectors. Wire splices to be made in valve boxes only. Do not bury wire splices. D. Bundle wire together and wrap with electrical tape at five foot intervals. E. Provide 4 ft. expansion curls every 100 ft. for runs more than 100 ft. in length. Provide 10 inches of slack at connection to electric control valves. F. Excavate pit to two times diameter of root ball or root system and not less than 6 inches deeper for shrubs and 12 inches deeper for trees. 3.02 TREE AND SHRUB PLACEMENT A. Shrub Base: Place shrub directly on undisturbed subgrade. Do not over excavate. ' B. Tree Base: Place tree directly on undisturbed subgrade. Do not over excavate. C. Plant upright and face to give best appearance or relationship to adjacent plants and structures. D. Loosen and remove twine binding and burlap from top one half of root balls. 3.03 TREE SUPPORT A. Guy and stake evergreen trees from three directions as per detail. Securely fasten guy wires to ' stakes with eyehooks and wires to tree with broad belt type or chain plastic tree ties. No wire is permitted around trunk. Tighten guy wires with turnbuckles. Stake deciduous trees from two directions as per detail. ' B. Install tree supports prior to backfilling. ' 3.04 BACKFILLING A. Cut off broken or frayed roots. B. Place and compact amended imported topsoil. Avoid injury to roots, fill voids. C. When hole is 4" deep, fill with water and let stand until water is absorbed by soil. Fill to finish ' grade and provide 2" depressed water basin at each shrub and tree. D. Initial watering -in of trees and shrubs by underground sprinkler system is not permitted 3.05 PLANTING GROUND COVERS A. Install plants at spacing indicated. Prune trees and shrubs to remove damaged or diseased branches. , 3.07 MULCHING A. Apply 2" layer of bark mulch over shrub planting beds within two days after planting. Bark shall also be applied to areas of soil where no lawn or shrubs are indicated. B. Lift plant foliage above mulch where required. 3.08 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING ' A. Remove and replace plants or materials not meeting specified standards. Remove materials rejected by the Architect from the site within 24 hours. B. Reinstall plants not located as indicated on Drawings. C. Repair damage to service lines or site improvements caused by planting work. D. Reshape finish grade where directed and remove excess materials from the site. 3.09 ESTABLISHMENT A. Comply with Section 02990 LANDSCAPE WARRANTY. Length of Warranty: One year from the date of substantial completion. 1 1.02 ESTABLISHMENT AND WARRANTY PERIOD REQUIREMENTS A. PLANT MATERIALS: All plant materials shall be warranted to remain in a healthy condition I until the end of the Warranty Period. Replace dead and unhealthy plants immediately. B. IRRIGATION SYSTEM: ' • 1. Scope: Warrant the compete irrigation system. The complete system shall remain fully operational with head to head coverage, without leaks or settling trenches. Defects, leaks and settled trenches shall be repaired at no expense to the owner. Pavement which cracks ' due to settlement of trenches shall be replaced. Other damage sustained by trench settlement shall be repaired at no expense to the Owner. 2. Procedures: When warranty work is needed, the Owner shall inform the Contractor in ' writing to arrange a schedule for repair. If the Contractor does not submit a mutually acceptable repair schedule within one week of receipt of the request, the Owner shall have the right have the repairs made by others at normal market rates at the Contractor's expense. The Owner shall also have the right to make emergency repairs by others at the Contractor's expense. Emergency repairs shall be defined as repairs necessary to limit collateral damage such as that caused by a mainline leak or malfunction during hot or dry weather. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 PLANT MATERIALS A. All plant materials and equipment replaced under warranty shall be replaced accordance with all provisions of the Contract Documents. Equipment shall be of the same manufacturer, model, size and quantity as originally installed. Plant material shall be of the same variety, size, and quantity as originally installed. Owner reserves the right to inspect plant materials replaced under warranty 1 and reject those which do not conform to specified standards. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 TURF AREA OPERATIONS 1 A. Fine Mowing: Contractor shall be responsible for the first three mowings after final acceptance. After the third mowing, the Owner will assume responsibility for mowing, edging and trimming of ' lawns. For all turf areas the contractor shall inspect and police the grounds for litter and debris prior to each mowing, and dispose of it. Mowing height for all irrigated lawn areas shall be no less than 1 1/2 ", not to exceed 2 1/2" between mowing operations. At least one week shall pass between mowings unless the grass exceeds 2 1/2" in height. Scalping and uneven cutting shall be prevented. Mower blades shall be maintained in a good condition for an even cut. Any excess clippings shall be dispersed and /or collected to prevent damage to existing lawn areas or if it causes an unsightly appearance. Contractor shall repair or replace all trees, shrubs and other plantings and other permanent fixtures that are damaged during Contractor mowing operations. Mowing equipment will be adjusted and maintained to provide the best possible cut. B. Edging: All sidewalks, curb lines, concrete slabs, bed edges shall be mechanically edged as needed to maintain a neat, clean appearance, once every three mowings (minimum). C. Hand Clipping and Weed Eating: Trimming shall be performed around all road signs, guard posts, trees, shrubs, utility poles and other obstacles. The grass to be trimmed shall be trimmed no less than the desired height of cut determined by the mowing operation. To be done with each mowing operation. 1 D. Sweep /Blow Walks: At the conclusion of each mowing, walks adjacent to work areas are to be swept or blown clean. 3.02 IRRIGATION SYSTEM A. The Owner will establish time settings and intervals of irrigation water application for each valve 1 of all irrigation zones. Cooperate with the Owner to make changes when necessary to correspond to variable watering requirements for all planting areas. B. Observe operation of all irrigation heads at least twice each operating month until the last mowing. Check for coverage and plugged or broken heads and leaks; repair leaks, balance system and clean or replace heads or nozzles as required to maintain system in proper working order.
