At your request, GeoPacific Engineering, Inc. (GeoPacific) performed a geotechnical engineering
study for the proposed new developments on the site of the Westgate Baptist Church at the
southeast corner of Scholls Ferry Road and 130 Avenue in Tigard, Oregon (see Vicinity Map,
Figure 1). The purpose of the geotechnical study was to explore and evaluate the surface and
subsurface conditions at the site, and based on the conditions observed, provide
recommendations pertaining to geotechnical aspects of the project.
SITE AND PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The site is approximately 4.5 acres in size. Elevations range between about 204 and 226 feet
above sea level. Existing topography is gently sloping down to the southwest, with grades
averaging about 2.5 percent throughout the site.
The proposed development includes a new, two story building with a footprint area of about
25,000 square feet and associated parking and underground utilities. Currently, the site is
occupied by five small existing structures, parking areas, walkways, and playing fields. Three of
the existing buildings are to remain on the site. Proposed grading is relatively minor, with
maximum cuts and fill depths on the order of a few feet or less. The general site layout and is
shown on the Site and Exploration Plan, Figure 2.
SCOPE OF WORK AND AUTHORIZATION
The scope of work for this geotechnical study was presented in our May 13, 2002 proposal, and
consisted of a field exploration program of exploratory borings, geotechnical analyses, and
preparation of this letter report. This scope of services and our General Conditions for
Geotechnical Services were authorized by Steve Shaw on May 21, 2002.
