TIGARD CITY COUNCIL: MAYOR CRAIG DIRKSEN, GRETCHEN BUEHNER, SALLY HARDING, SYDNEY SHERWOOD,TOM WOODRUFF ACity of Tigard Neighborhoods in Your City In 2004,Council agreed to the concept of creating a neighborhood program based on geographic areas - I divided by common interests such as - school attendance areas, major streets, y proximity to parks and commercial service areas. 2 Program Goals 3 The purpose of the Enhanced 1 Neighborhood Program will be to 11 X06 provide increased opportunities for 5 citizens to be involved in community 10 6 issues and to connect with the city and other citizens. The goal is to involve citizens as partners in addressing their 12 neighborhood issues as early as possible, x and to facilitate neighborhood-level input on broader community issues. , Citizens echoed this through the Tigard Beyond Tomorrow Community - 9 Action Committee when they included an action plan item for 2005 that read: "Develop and implement an enhanced Citi.Zen involvementprogram which may include re-invigorated neighborhood associations encouraging interactions which are led by What's Next? citizens within 72 months." Roll-out of the pilot program started in April, and will be followed by full scale Neighborhood Concepts implementation of the citywide,12-area program by the end of 2007. Neighborhood Defined web pages are currently being developed. The pilot area testing will take place in three neighborhoods: Metzger,Summer Lake and South Tigard. This pilot program will assist in The Committee for Citizen developing effective community-building activities. Involvement(CCI) has played an integral part with the development of an enhanced neighborhood concept. Since 2004,there have been open houses, public surveys and presentations to the community in an effort to gain valuable input on the proposed concepts of the program. Council accepted the concept and since 2006 has dedicated one of their yearly goals to this program. Do You Have Ideas to Share?
