Projections beyond the exterior walls (such as eaves) are still not allowed to project more than 12" into the area where openings are prohibited per section R301.1. In this case, openings are prohibited at less than 3' from the property line per table R302.1. The proposed method would be acceptable to protect the eave that would be allowed to project to within 2' of the property line.
