Regarding: Shear wall location change from south end of west wall to north end of west
wall

Last week we reviewed the shearwall location change on the west wall in person with
John W. Parkin, Consulting Civil and Structural Engineer, (360 694 -8378) and we
concluded that moving the shear panel to the north end of the wall is satisfactory as you
have built it, no modifications are required.
The fact that the new shear wall is longer than at the designed location, ie, 48" vs 42" and
the remaining portion of that panel is nailed off per shear nailing requirements, adds to
the stiffness of the subject wall beyond the design requirements.
The location of the panel is not critical, and in fact the location on the outside corner may
be better structure because the house walls are plywood and form a stiff corner.
No changes or additional drawings are required.
