Number of Pages including this Sheet 1 Date September 16, 2009 MESSAGE: As requested, I made a site observation visit yesterday afternoon to observe the rebar before the first concrete pour. My understanding is the City had been to the site the day before and found some issues. The rebar in the perimeter of the building appeared to be per the plans and the forms and soil appeared fine. Rebar for the interior footings wasn't quite right. The interior column footings need to have the #6 rebar per the foundation schedule. We discussed the alternate of using #4 bars and how that required 2.2 times as many bars (instead of six #6 bars, they could use 14 #4 bars). My understanding is that #6 bars are being installed this morning. The special inspector will look at the rebar once it has been replaced. • The need for the special inspector was discussed. My understanding is that Carlson Testing Inc. has now been contacted and they will act as the special inspector. Carlson is required to inspect the rebar and will take at least 3 cylinders for strength testing at 7 days and 28 days per concrete pour. The exterior footings will now be poured as a footing and then stem wall with the (non - structural) slab poured later after plumbing is known. There are no structural objections with this construction sequence. The permit drawings currently show the footings and slab poured monolithically. The rebar in the footings does not change with the multiple pour foundation. A revised detail will be provided (later today) to show the stem wall and slab bars with the non - monolithic pour. it p - 0 / 'sr R. GO A ._F P*E.
