Based on our observations, the native soils containing vegetation and roots were stripped and the parking garage subgrades north of Southwest Elmhurst Street were prepared in accordance with the project specifications and the recommendations in ow geotechnical reps A GeoEsngineers representative performed ins -place nuclear density tests on crushed rock base placed beneath the floor slab and in utility trenches. Areas where the test results indicated inadequate relative compaction were reworked and recomputed. Based on our testing and observations, the subgrade and base rock in the building pads were prepared in accordance with project plans and specifications and the recommendations in our geotechnical report. 4 - Geutrgnuex, Inc • 7504 SW Bridgeport Road purdand, OR 97224 Telephone (503) 6249274 Fax MS) 65940 12/04/00 MON 15:49 FAX 15034432291 Baugh:Tigard fh003 'NOV -27 -2000 NON 09:45 Art GEO ENGINEERS FAX NO. 5036208046 P. 03/03 - -r. -- Specht Properties, Inc. THOMAS CAMERO, P.E. MEMORANDUM TO: Mike Gorman, LRS Architects FROM: Trent Nagele, P.E. RE: TCC Garage I have reviewed the post- tension stressing records submitted by Carlson Testing dated 07/05/00. Out of approximately 260 tendons, 14 were outside the specified 7% tolerance. Five of these were the angled tendons at the southwest corner. Of the others, most are in the 8% to 10% range and are associated with short tendons, where the actual measured differences are relatively small. Consequently, the reported values are acceptable. The measured elongation of the five angled tendons at the southwest corner were short by 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch (approximately 33 %) when compared to calculated values. Although this is a high percentage difference, the risks associated with additional stressing do not justify any small benefit that might be achieved. Since we do not anticipate any adverse effects with the present condition, these tendons should be left as is. One uniform tendon (green blue) at approximately grid B -9 was broken during stressing. Since this is an isolated case, no additional corrective measures will be required. Claus with Carlson has also indicated that two broken strands (tendons are made up of 7 strands) were discovered along the intermediate stressing joint at grid 6.2 following stressing. He indicated that the tendon in question was the fourth yellow tendon from grid G. During the next stressing operation, this tendon should be stressed to a jacking force of 23 kips. There appear to be several duplicate tendon records in the report. I have discussed this with Claus and asked him to clarify his report. In subsequent reports, it has been recommended that better track be kept of the tendon locations to avoid future questions. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these or other items, please do not hesitate to contact me at your convenience. cc: Bob Burns, Specht Development Chris Hartson, Baugh Construction Bob Poskin, City of Tigard Carlson Testing TCN:dc 4 , 0 G tk .* s * C 0 E o a M C o a 11 MEMBER
