David Craig Construction Inc. currently employs two people, both of which are also owners of the company. I am one of the two employees. I leave for work at 6 :30 a.m. and often drive to the storage, building on the rear of the property to unload /load supplies end materials. This process takes about ten minutes on the average. I occasionally work on saturdays and sundays, but do not leave until 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on these days. I generally do not use the storage shed for business use in the evenings. I also use the telephone at my residence for business use occasionally. Most of my business is conducted, however, on the mobile phone that I have with me on the jobsite at all times. There are really no hours that the property is used for business purposes on a consistant basis other. than 6:30 a.m._ My application does not state that 520 square feet are used for business purposes. If you will look at the enclosed drawing that was submitted with the application you will see an area in the outbuilding labeled "reloading bench." This area is used for reloading firearms ammunition for hunting and shooting. Since these hobbies take up_approximatel_m_128 spare feet in the building, the .total area being used for business purposes is actually only 392 square feet. The pipe that is currently stored beside the outbuilding is in violation of city code and will be removed from the property or stored inside the storage building. Your application has been enclosed so that you may write additional information directly on the form rather than attaching additional sheets. I have also forwarded a copy of the Home Occupation Permit section of the City's Community Development Code. This Code section details items which are permitted through Home Occupations as well as detailing some items which are not permitted. I thought you may appreciate having a copy of the Home Occupation regulations for your personal records. The items from your application which need clarification are: 1) How many persons do you employ who do not reside at your home? 2) During what days and hours will you be using a portion of your property to conduct some aspect of your home occupation (telephone contact, loading materials onto trucks or trailers, etc...)? 3) The code allows for a maximum of 500 square feet of any accessory building to be used for the purposes of a home occupation. Your application states that 520 square feet would be used for this purpose and therefore is over the maximum allowed. 4) The code specifies that there shall be no outdoor storage of materials associated with home occupations. The pipe mentioned in your application must be stored within an enclosed structure.
