No formwork was yet in place. We understand that the proposed residence is a two -story single - family home with slab -on -grade garage floor. The excavation probed medium stiff for two feet depth and stiff below. The subgrade soil consisted of native silt where exposed. The observed subgrade was adequate for spread foundation support to a maximum allowable bearing pressure of 1,500 psf;. Settlements should be limited to Tess than 1 inch total and 3/ inch differential. If desired, expected settlements can be limited further by assuming a 1,000 psf allowable bearing pressure and making the footings about 2 feet wide. Deck footing, patio, or other appurtenant structure subgrades were not observed, with the exception of the front right corner of the home, where a thin layer of fill over an old grass layer exists in places. If footings are to bear on the areas with organics, the subgrade should be deepened slightly to get below the organics..
