Re: Patio Cover / Window Enclosure Job 5443
I understand that the Patio Cover engineered by me in January
2003 (Job 4981) has been built according to plan. The issue now
is whether or not this patio cover can be closed up with full -
height window panels.
I have checked both wind and earthquake loads under the
revised Building Code (please find enclosed) and found that the
new loads are less than the design forces from 2003.
This structural approval to enclose is based upon the patio
cover having been constructed in strict compliance with my
original design. The key elements of the original design are the
three cantilevered, pressure- treated wood columns in augured -hole
concrete footings and tying the patio cover roof structure to the
existing house at both the original eave and the original gable.

Mr. Culvert, the City of Tigard has requested your review , opinion and /or
suggestions for needed additonal support of the existing cover when we enclose
this patio cover with windows.
This covered area will then become a sunroom.
A 12 foot sliding window will be placed on the south facing opening and a series
of 3 3 /window panels will be placed in each open area separated by the 6X6
support post.
LBL tempered and tinted windows will be used for the enclosure.
