Nicole thanked them for their service to the community and our city. Nicole shared a brief history of Basil and Dolly's accomplishments and services over the years. Basil started as a community facilitator in 1997 then evolved into the neighborhood networks and the committee for citizen involvement. He has also been in numerous task forces in the past twenty years. Most notably, the North Dakota Street and Tree Planning Task Force. Dolly was active with the school district before joining CCE. She has also been active in various City of Tigard Committee for Community Engagement Minutes 2 community outreach and volunteering efforts. Dolly expressed that she would remain committed to the city’s engagement activities and programs, especially the DEI initiati ve. Liaison Recap from the last meeting DEI training planning is in the works. Nicole will provide more details in the next meeting. CCE needs to determine what is needed around the cultural hub work from the community engagement coordinator. Nicole will invite the city’s community engagement coordinator, Judi Martin, Community Development in January to share about their projects. Other items: Nicole has been busy conducting one-on-ones for onboarding seven new CCE members. Shaila and Nicole plan to have a team builder activity slated in January’s meeting. Bhushan and Nicole will work on refining the onboarding and offboarding documents. Events and community planning sessions will be held in January. Both events are scheduled at the same in the Tigard Library. Nicole will share the flyer soon. For future event scheduling, be mindful of other competing events such as school graduation and summer vacation. The Juneteenth event went well in terms of connecting community members and businesses. Consider also tying parks in Juneteenth celebrations. CCE Visioning Feedback received: 1) Hold space for team building, 2) Revisit and decide the questions, “What CCE is, are we a collection of people or are we collectively working together on a concept?”, 3) What is the objective of CCE as we consider the progression of this committee, 4) Be open to sharing goals, and discussing sensitive topics that matter within a neighborhood, 5) Actively attend city committee meetings to keep abreast of topics that overlap with CCE that can be used for discussions. Reviewing poll results and how engagement look in 2024. 1) Hold a roundtable meeting with neighborhoods to discuss needs and concerns, 2) Utilize the community navigator position to gather community feedback, 3) Improve collaboration with other committees in the city, 4) Engage the council on processes, goals, and initiatives, 5) Meet with the Economic Development group to identify cultural hubs and support needed. Invite Tina Escalera to January’s meeting, 6) Increase CCE presence at community events. Nicole proposed an open house in the Spring where all board and committee members can get together and know each other. There will also be a component for the community to attend and learn about the city's governance. Annual Report Nicole needs assistance in describing the work of our subcommittees. In the past year, the DEIB work occurred as needed. In the upcoming year, we want to integrate DEI into everything that we do. In doing this, hopefully, DEI work will occur more organically (as opposed to scripted). 3 Future discussion on what the annual report should look like going forward and how often CCE would like to meet. Bhushan volunteered to produce a quarterly report for every other meeting. Nicole will make minor edits to the annual report for the council presentation. Members agreed to have an in-person presentation in the new year. Please send Nicole any feedback by email. Councilor Wolf encouraged the idea of an open dialogue. Subcommittee Update Diversity, Equity, Inclusion for Belonging. Isaiah reported the El Tigre event was a great success. More thoughts were put into the event this year more ethnic businesses participated. He also noted the good work that the City of Tigard has done in the economic development grant opportunities for Latino businesses. However, the same opportunities should also be extended to other minority business groups. The city may need to partner with Tigard Chamber of Commerce to increase diversity. For future conversation, should we continue to have subcommittees, or should we discuss matters like DEIB, outreach & volunteerism at our meeting? Outreach & Volunteerism Future conversations concerning planning for multicultural events and the Chair’s role. Review and Accept Meeting Minutes The September 20 meeting minutes were accepted and approved. Open Agenda None. Adjournment Shaila called the meeting to adjourn at 8:34 pm Chat Screenshots No Chat.
