Request to Friends for Library Parking - 06.15.2011 June 15, 2011 George Burgess, President Friends of the Tigard Library 13500 SW Hall Boulevard Tigard, OR 97223 infontigar_ dfibrarv, friends.org Dear George, I wish to thank you and the Friends of the Tigard Library for favorably considering my informal funding request to help the city acquire and build auxiliary parking for the Tigard Public Library. This letter constitutes a formal request for this funding from the Friends. As we discussed, the City of Tigard would appreciate a donation of$50,000 to the city to assist with purchasing land and building additional library parking. The Friends would probably wish to condition this donation upon its use for land acquisition and/or improvements for additional parking within walking distance of the library. We also discussed the possibility of the Friends making a second donation (for the same purpose) of up to $100,000 over the 10 years following the initial donation. The city's hope is to acquire and build additional parking sooner than 10 years, but these funds would help to offset the up-front costs of acquisition and improvements. You mentioned that funding this donation could possibly come from the addition of a third annual book sale each year during that 10-year period. We also talked about these donations being in addition to the annual gifts that the Friends are already making to the library, not in-lieu of them. When you and I spoke about these possible donations, we also discussed the Friends' wish for assistance for additional storage space for books pending the Friends' book sales. I understand from our conversation this morning that the city has met your needs by turning over the use of the entire main floor of the garage at the Fanno Creek House. I am very happy that we were able to provide this solution to your storage challenge. Again, my thanks to you and the Friends for your willingness to consider supporting this parking project. The Friends are a very important part of the library family, and we deeply appreciate your generosity and support over the years. I hope that we will be able to continue to work together to make our library ever greater. Sincerel , Craig Prosser, City Manager cc: Tigard City Council I Margaret Barnes,Library Director
