• Police Chief's Advisory Panel/board/committee concept has been around
for many years
• Former Tigard Police Chief Al Orr had a Chief's Advisory Board
• Opportunity to continue the great foundational work that the Public
Safety Advisory Board has started
• Opportunity for PSAB members to provide input on what the Advisory
Board's function and membership should include

{ , } Purpose of an Advisory 1 Board
• The police department recognizes the need for community advice that is
representative of the opinions of the entire community.
• It is the Department management's intention that the Advisory Council will
have a total membership of 10- 12 people. They represent valid cross section of
the community, including considerations such as: neighborhood, commercial
interest, age, gender, ethnicity, income level and as many other individual
criterion as possible that could be affected by department decisions.
• The nature of the advisory council's composition is intended to encourage
diverse opinions. The Chief covers a variety of topics and provides all
committee members an opportunity to express opinions.

• The Advisory Panel act in a proactive manner to:
• Build trust between the police department and the community
• Address community concerns related to the quality of life
• Discuss issues related to community impacts
• Discuss issues affecting public safety
• Discuss crime reduction programs while emphasizing the community policing
philosophy
• Discuss how to improve upon the delivery of police service to the community.

agency's operation.

Meets 3x year (Feb, May, Oct)
Acts as a two-way conduit funneling information, concerns, and issues from
the community to police and fire and return information to the group.

Sherwood Police Department
Appointed by the Council via municipal code. Must be impartial and
unbiased.
Meets every 3rd Thursday of every month at 7pm
Take community comments in writing
9 members — 3-year terms, 6 members must be residents remaining within
the 97140 zip code
