MDtru, ctura.I ngineering January 3, 2022 Ken Boal Porter Electric, Inc. 7320 NE St. Johns Rd. Vancouver, WA 98665 RE: Dartmouth Apartments Electrical Bus Duct Seismic Bracing Dear Ken, At your request I visited the Dartmouth Apartment building on December 21, 2021. The purpose of my visit was to observe the supports that were installed for the electrical bus ducts& to determine if the bus duct supports require seismic bracing. At the time of my visit, all of the installed bus ducts were supported @ approximately 8 ft on center by a trapezes comprised of two 3/8"threaded rods and a piece of Unistrut between the rods. The bottom of the bus duct supports were generally 12"or less from the underside of the elevated second floor slabs. Since the apartment building has a seismic importance factor of 1.0(reference S001.1, General Structural Notes for the building), per section 13.6.5 Exception 1.a in the ASCE 7-16, seismic bracing of the bus ducts are not required. If you have any questions regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me at our office.
