Council History Information History of last six Council vacancies:
1991
Councilor Eadon Resigned on September 30, 1991.
Three candidates were interviewed on October 7, 1991. Jack Schwab was appointed to
the Council position on October 8, 1991. A special election was held in March 1992.
Judy Fessler was elected to fill the position.
1996
Councilor Hawley resigned effective December 31, 1995. Council conducted interviews
of three candidates on January 30, 1996. Council selected Brian Moore and Mayor
Nicoli administered the Oath of Office that same meeting. Councilor Moore was elected
to a regular four-year term at the November 1996 election. (The four-year term started
on January 1, 1997)
2000
Mayor Nicoli passed away in June 2000. Interviews were conducted for the Mayor's
position and Jim Griffith was selected by the Council to serve as Mayor until the March
election. He was sworn in on September 12, 2000. In March 2001, Mayor Griffith was
elected by Tigard voters to complete Mayor Nicoli's term.
2002
Councilor Patton resigned on September 1,2002. Her term was up as of December 31,
2002, so the Council operated as a four-member Council the rest of 2002. (Nick Wilson
and Sydney Sherwood were elected in November 2002 to fill four-year terms starting
January 1, 2003.)
2003
Mayor Griffith passed away in November 2003. Council President Dirksen presided over
Council until January 14, 2004 when he was then appointed to serve as interim Mayor for
one year. In November 2004,Mayor Dirksen was elected to serve the remainder of
Mayor Griffith's term(January 2005 to December 2006)
2004
Councilor Dirksen's service as interim Mayor left a vacant City Council position.
Council interviewed eight applicants and selected Tom Woodruff. Councilor Woodruff
was elected to a four-year term at the November 2004 election,this full term started on
January 1, 2005.
