Tigard Public Library Board Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,June 17,2020 6:30 p.m.
MEETING LOCATION: Virtual Teams Meeting with Phone Bridge for Public listening
1. Tested equipment to ensure connectivity of Board Members. Gail Stephens wasn't able to connect,
but did call in so she at least heard what was being shared.
2. CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Harris called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

4. APPROVE MINUTES
The minutes from the March 11, 2020 Board meeting were reviewed. No changes were requested.
Motion by Mary Bogert. Second by Shirley Edwards to approve the March 11,2020 minutes.

5. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
No changes were suggested.
6. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF JOSEPH CAT LAHAN AND ALICIA TURNER'S SERVICE TO THE BOARD
Chair Harris thanked Joe Callahan and Alicia Turner for their time and commitment in serving on the
Library Board. As a thank you for their service,they will be receiving a bookplate to affix to a book of
their choice or to a genre of their choice that has been ordered to be a part of the collection. Staff will
work with the selectors on the details of their choice.
7. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Library Director Bernard updated the Board on activities and decisions made since the last meeting held
in March. She began by explaining how the Library will expand the services that we provide while the

building is closed to the public, starting with Library Takeout, which will allow patrons to make
appointments to pick up the items they have on hold in a "curbside pickup" model. This new service
soft-launched today and will officially begin on Monday,June 22na
Halsted had informed the Board in March that the cafe space in the lobby was going to be opening,but
the pandemic put all that on hold. The tentative opening of the new Opportunity Cafe has been
postponed until September.
Most of the library staff returned to work this week. They are splitting their workweek between the
building and working remotely from home.
Final interviews in the recruitment process for our Communications and Outreach Coordinator will be
held on Monday,June 22nd.
In April, the City laid off all on-call employees, 17 of whom worked at the Library. Since our on-call
staff supports our public service desk work, and those public service desks are not being staffed at this
time,we are not recalling these on-call employees to work at this time. This may change dependent on
future service levels.
Our volunteer program was suspended on March 13th. We do not have plans to restart our volunteer
program in the building right now, but our Volunteer Coordinator, Katie Nelson,is exploring what
virtual volunteering opportunities might entail.
Halsted filled the Board in on the training and program opportunities that staff have been continuing
to participate in. She also filled them in on projects that have been happening behind the scenes and
those that are out there for the public to enjoy.
On July 7, 2020 the City Council will be announcing the appointment of our newly recruited Library
Board members Jim Ivler and Helen Allen.
8. OTHER BUSINESS
Katie Harris expressed her appreciation to Halsted and the Library staff for everything they have done
for the community during this pandemic.
9. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Harris adjourned the meeting at 7:02 p.m. Due to a technical issue, it was necessary to make an
adjustment from meeting on the 2"Wednesday in July. The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board
is scheduled for Wednesday,July 15,2020 at 6:30 p.m.This meeting will be a virtual meeting conducted
through Microsoft Teams.
