Subject: Tigard ZIP Code/City Designations
Dear Russ,
The Postal Service recognizes the importance of last-line address designations for our customers. Accordingly, our
database has been expanded so that, in some cases, we can accommodate specific alternate place names.
I contacted our Address Management Systems (AMS) Manager in our Portland District who stated the ZIP Code
designated for the Tigard community is Portland. However, the manager also reports our address database has
designated the Tigard community to use the name designation of"Tigard" as an alternative mailing addresses with Zip
Codes of 97223 and 97224
As information, although many mailing addresses and ZIP Code boundaries roughly coincide with local municipal
boundaries, there often are instances where individual delivery areas overlap formal or informal community

.bound-•ies. The Postal Service is aware of the growing use of mailing addresses and ZIP Codes by municipalities and
businesses for various non-postal purposes. We also recognize
the problems resulting from this practice when there is not an exact fit of ZIP Code and municipal boundaries.
The default city name for ZIP Code 97223 and 97224 will remain Portland; Tigard will be the alternate city name.
This customers can use either address for mailing. Our address database recognizes both addresses....example below

PORTLAND OR 97223 OR TIGARD OR 97223
1 hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
