Photo Traffic Enforcement is Live at SW Hall and 99W
Photo traffic enforcement for red-light violations is now live at the intersection of SW Hall
Boulevard and Pacific Highway (99W) in Tigard. Warning letters will be mailed to motorists
violating red-light traffic laws at this intersection for the next 30 days. After the warning period
concludes, citations will be issued.
This is one of three intersections along Pacific Highway (99W) where the City of Tigard is installing
camera equipment to make intersections safer for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. These
intersections were chosen based on a number of criteria, including violations and crashes. The
remaining two intersections scheduled for installation in January are:
• SW Pacific Highway and Durham Road
• SW Pacific Highway and 72nd Avenue
Traffic safety is a priority for the City of Tigard. Running red lights has been identified as the leading
cause of urban crashes according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Currently, there are
not enough police officers to enforce red-light violations at every dangerous intersection in the city.
Photo enforcement is one of the tools the City of Tigard is using to make driving in the city safer.
Tigard expects to see significant reductions in red-light violations similar to the experiences of
neighboring jurisdictions using this technology.
Photo traffic enforcement generates high-resolution photos and videos of an incident that Tigard
Police Officers will review to confirm that a red-light violation has occurred. Citations mailed to
motorists will include photos and a link to video footage for the recipient to review.
The citation amount for these violations is $265. If the recipient wants to contest a violation, they
may contact Tigard Municipal Court for options.
