Tigard Public Library Board Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,June 12, 2019 7:00 p.m.

1. CALL To ORDER:
Chair Harris called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL

3. APPROVE MINUTES
The minutes from the May 8,2019 Board meeting were reviewed. No changes were requested.
Motion by Becky Gauthier. Second by Mary Bogert to approve the May 8, 2019 minutes.

4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
None were suggested.
5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Library Staff Member Lisa Elliott,Youth Services Librarian presented an update on the Teen
Scene. A tour was offered at the end of the meeting for those who wanted to check out the new
Teen Space.
6. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Halsted Bernard reported on all the exciting things happening at the library. Summer Reading
Program has gotten into full swing. Gift baskets have been created by the Adult Services team for
incentive for adults to sign up.Youth Services had an extensive outreach push at the end of May and
beginning of June. 1500 kids have already signed up.
Many staff members were able to attend the Ryan Dowd training through WCCLS. This training
emphasized setting compassionate boundaries between staff and those patrons experiencing
homelessness.All levels of staff were able to attend and came back energized.

Recruitment for the open positions at the library are under way. The interviews for the Library
Director position are scheduled for tomorrow,June 13, 2019. The process will include a meet and
greet event in which the members of the Library Board have been invited to attend.
The May 2019 Statistical Reports were distributed to the Board.
The proposed change in library hours of operation was presented to patrons on the recent patron
survey. A brief discussion ensued. If these hours were to take effect, we may need to consider
changing the time the Library Board meets.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
Mary Bogert just got back from a trip to New York where she visited the New York Public Library.
The original Winnie-the-Pooh is located there. She said the New York Library is closed for the entire
Memorial Day weekend.
Interview for the open Library Board positions will be conducted on Thursday,June 13 from 5:00-
9:00. There were sixteen applicants.
The Board decided to not meet in July. This will give time for the Library Board interviews and
submitting the recommendation for appointments to the Tigard City Council. The Board will meet
in August with the new Board Members and will vote for officers in September.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Harris adjourned the meeting at 7:26 p.m. The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board is
scheduled for Wednesday,August 14,2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Conference Room.
