Mayor Jason Snider
City of Tigard
13125 SW Hall Blvd.
Tigard, OR 97223
Dear Mayor Snider,
On behalf of the Tualatin Valley Community Band, I would like to thank the City of Tigard for
hosting our rehearsals and concert at the Bishop-Scheckla Gazebo during the summer of
2019. This is an outstanding facility that works in all types of weather—rain or shine!
As an example, we rehearsed one Tuesday night between 7 and 9 pm and the skies unloaded
nearly 0.25"of rain. We were safe and dry inside the gazebo. It just so happened that the
rain ended at 9 pm so we timed our exit just right
The gazebo is an acoustic wonder rivaling Carnegie Hall! There is no bad seat in the park to
hear TVCB perform. We ended our 30'h Anniversary Season in the gazebo on July 28'h and
noticed that the wood support structure was freshly sanded and stained, Although 20 years
old,the gazebo looked new! This was a real surprise!
Nationwide, very few community bands rehearse and perform during the summer because
schools are closed. Martha Bishop and Kenny Scheckla were visionaries in supporting the
construction of a gazebo that holds 70 musicians of all ages. Their legacy lives on and the
City has done an excellent job to honor them by preserving this structure,
am sorry I missed you to say"Hi" at the concert. Seems that I had a million things to do to
ensure the program went smoothly. 1 want to reemphasize the sincerity in my opening
remarks thanking the City of Tigard for giving TVCB a home every summer!
With best re
