Please read below and start making preparations to install the required ventilation to minimize delays in preparing your site for install. For safety reasons, you must install a ventilation system to use our products. it k Carbon Inc, 2018.All rights reserved. „ M ; 0 Overview • A ventilation system is a mechanical system that is driven by an active ventilation connected to ductwork that supplies fresh air to the lab and extracts stale or contaminated air from the interior to the outside of the building. • Active ventilation is defined as a mechanical system consisting of some type of fan, ductwork, and a connection point to a piece of equipment. Ventilation rates can be adjusted through the use of dampers/valves. • If you want to use an existing ventilation system for the Carbon workflow, please check with your EH&S and/or Facilities department. The main chemicals the ventilation system needs to remove are acrylate monomers and amines. You will need to test your current ventilation system to validate that it is compatible with common amine curing agents. • To provide ventilation flexibility both now and in the future, we require the installation of a blast gate on every ventilation drop. This will allow our Carbon representatives to tune your specific air flow, which is especially important to prevent the ventilation from removing too much heat from your oven (a common customer issue). Ventilation Requirements WORKSTATION VENTILATION REQUIREMENT *each drop requires an installed blast gate *each drop requires a 4-inch diameter ven' ation hose M Series Printer 20 cfm (34 m3/h) (per printer) Wash Area (Adjustable Snorkel or Fume Hood) 50 cfm (85 m3/h) (per wash area) Compressed Air Cleaning Cabinet 80 cfm (136 m3/h) (per cabinet) Convection Oven 20 cfm (34 m3/h) (per oven), high-temp hose Smart Part Washer 50 cfm (85 m3/h) (per part washer), aluminum hose Vertrel Distiller (Fixed Snorkel or Fume Hood) 100 cfm (170 m3/h) (per distiller), not applicable for Smart Part Washer using Dimethyl Adipate (DMA) as a solvent Note: if you do not have a meter to test the flow, we have used this anemometer. The pressure drop at each device is negligible. You will need to estimate your ventilation tubing diameter, length, and bends to understand the pressure drop for your lab. Ventilation Requirements • The minimum ventilation requirement for a single printer lab with a part washer and industrial accessories is 320 cfm (545 m3/h), or 360 cfm (610 m3/h) if you include the two additional printers to complete the SpeedCellTM. • Ventilation is required in six places in a single printer lab with a part washer: printer, part washer, distiller*, part washing workstation, compressed air cleaning cabinet, and convection oven. • Ventilation is required in eight places in a SpeedCellTM lab: 3 printers, part washer, distiller*, part washing workstation, compressed air cleaning cabinet, and convection oven. Each additional product will require an additional ventilation drop per the requirements table (previous slide). • Building capacity for plenty of ventilation is a good idea for your Carbon lab because excess ventilation will make it easy to accommodate more printers and adopt future products or accessories without the need to re-engineer your lab. • Each of these locations must be vented to the outside of the building. *Note: The Smart Part Washer with Dimethyl Adipate (DMA) solvent does not require separate ventilation since DMA can not be distilled. The distiller is only applicable if you plan to use your Smart Part Washer with Vertrel. Please refer to the attached handout to learn more about which solvent is required for each resin. un -_ Your Site Prep Specialist will ask for a picture of each ventilation connection before scheduling the installation. We recommend a central line of ventilation with multiple drops, each with an installed and 4-inch diameter ventilation hose. This will connect to the Carbon product's exhaust port using a supplied clamp. r t. 6 , ,, oi r_, .,,.. t. - o- w , ,p ,.. mow .t Cure_ s. 1 i = r • Ll • - ,' N 10 L I _ ✓ 1 M Series Printers Smart Part Washers Compressed Air Cleaning Cabinet Ventilation Examples _. ,.. _. les NW -\\\T. Please attach the oven to the ventilation system using the provided adapter, which is °' shipped inside the oven. • The adapter is a flanged ventilation duct with an outer ringheld with three =*..`w p g ._.. wing nuts that should be installed on top of the oven. You should connect it to t a u the oven first so you can easily connect it to your 4-inch round exhaust duct. • Do not seal the outer ring (a common customer issue). : ✓ . ,;,: ', , __ • This arrangement pulls air from the room rather than sucking heat out of the . ` oven, but in doing so also removes oven fumes. ` As oven exhaust temperatures could exceed 220°C, use metal duct or metal x i9 . iii '4; t P. 1."' duct hose. plus a hose clamp, to withstand the high temperature air for at least 10 feet to allow for sufficient cooling. FAQs What locations of the Printer and Smart Part Washer setup require ventilation and how much? • Ventilation is required in six places in a single printer lab with part washer: printer, part washer, distiller (Vertrel only), part washing workstation, compressed air cleaning cabinet, and convection oven. See the Ventilation Requirements handout for the specific flow requirements per product. Where is the part washer exhaust port located? • On the back, in the upper right corner. What is the heat loading? • The heat loading of your oven is: 12.5 A (fuse limited) x 120 V x 100% (inefficiency) = 1500 W. • The heat loading of your M1 printer is: 7.5 A (fuse limited) x 120 V x 15% (inefficiency) = 135 W. • The heat loading of your M2 printer is: 10 A (fuse limited) x 120 V x 15% (inefficiency) = 180 W. 1 I1 REVISIONS 1733 REV.
